Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Mon Dec 17, 2012, 01:20 PM

On the gun issues, specifically, I stand with Michael Bloomberg.

Support is where you find it. Leadership is, too. Mike Bloomberg has, along with mayors of both parties, been way ahead of Washington on this one.

For the record, DiFi's AWB2 is just so much warmed over stuff from another time.

We need new, sweeping, big, bold, comprehensive action.

And we need it yesterday.

Note, for the sake of DU's standards: my support for Bloomberg is on this one, single issue. I am deaf to any cite that this is third party or anti Obama, or any other such pap. This is about guns. Period.

1. Michael Bloomberg: "NYPD is my private army".

http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=bloomberg+nypd+private+army&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

And I've seen him use it against the citizens:

http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=nypd+occupy+wall+street+brutality&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=SWTPUJzrJ4XSiAKfr4DwDA&biw=1215&bih=934&sei=f2TPUJ-jH43piwK6sIHoBw

A couple of days ago, protesters from Staten Island and the Far Rockaways were outside his building demanding funds and support as little is being done. He had NYPD make arrests and march everyone away. His new nickname is now Moldberg, as many homes still salvageable from Sandy are suffering from what is most likely toxic mold buildup. Watch carefully for any attempt to grab property in those areas through such as "health issues". Note that Bloomberg demanded the Staten Island Occupy Sandy mutual aid hubs be shut down as "vendors", despite the fact that no money changed hands.

The fact of the matter is, he and his wall street cronies are eager to finally gentrify Far Rockaways and other areas for incredible profit. Bloomberg is a poison, not a leader.

2. Please tell me you read only the OP headline and not the text of the post

Because if you read the whole thing, my writing and clarity are obviously lacking.

3. "...my support for Bloomberg is on this one, single issue."

Only a Sith speaks in absolutes. Ron Paul says about three things which also make sense, but like Bloomberg, the remaining 97% are scary as hell, and most obviously and blatantly disqualify them completely. Give them no power, no responsibility. They suck, and giving them "leadership" on a single issue basis ignores the harm they can do if giving such or more power. In Bloomberg's case, with "stop and frisk" and the horrible spying upon Muslims, he's an enormous hypocrite attempting to ride a populist demand. Utterly ignoring that OWS is an actual populist movement. What an asshole; get him out of here before he gains even more power.

8. Please provide links to news stories w/details re:Bloomberg shutting down mutual aid hubs.

Cause when that story was first posted here, there was only one single, very sketchy report.

Also, at the time I saw that story posted, I googled how much aid has already poured into Staten Island. It was a very, very large figure. I also know quite a few people who have donated time and resources.

10. He tried and people protested as anyone would expect. He called them "vendors" but no money was used

You should also check the OU forum for further stories about Bloomberg, Sandy Relief, and the disaster capitalism he and his wall street cronies are expected to undertake in the Far Rockaways, etc.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1252

Stories such as:

Occupy Sandy and fighting back against disaster capitalism

New Yorkers hard-hit by Sandy will take to the streets in Rockaways, Staten Island, Manhattan Update

Hurricane Sandy victims in Far Rockaway call on city to fix the mold before it gets cold

And anyone somehow unaware of his thugs' year-round brutality against peaceful, protesting citizens needs a serious research project. Much less the intrusions upon the Muslim community and "stop and frisk".

13. You provided absolutely no REAL information that indicates what you said.

But one of the links did go to the thread posted where the figure 70 million of federal aid had gone to SI already.

4. MAIG has a higher felony rate than the CCW holders or the general population

Given his record as mayor and espcially dealing with OWS, I cannot see how anyone can support what is a nasty 1%er.

7. They engage in a sort of mimicry

...that allows them to portray themselves as victims because Bloomberg won't let them tote guns in NYC.

It'd be rather funny if it weren't so damn sad.
