I am a political junkie.
Thanks to having 4 DVR tuners, I recorded and watched MSNBC, CNN and unfortunately FOX's political coverage last night. CNN and MSNBC provided coverage until midnight (and beyond on CNN). And then both stations repeated their coverage in the morning hours. Both CNN and MSNBC were excellent.
But FOX?
FOX (to the best of my knowledge) ran a program barely over 2 hours long. Even taking their right wing propaganda partisan view aside, the coverage was short and weak. Right wing viewers had to be upset.
But why?
Were they taking marching orders from the GOP establishment to mute the results? Was this a sign the GOP was telling their "puppets" on the FOX news set to downplay the results because their favorite nominee (Romney) was taking a beating?
I can't wait for the TV ratings to come out. I think its possible MSNBC and CNN could legitimately see a ratings bump because they were the only mainstream cable stations providing coverage deep into the night.
It was very strange. And I wouldn't put it past FOX news to try and censor the results, or underreport a big story if the GOP establishment thought it was unfavorable.
This was a very big GOP primary. It was huge news, especially for Republicans. This should have been FOX's night. This is right up their alley. FOX news is the GOP propaganda channel. They certainly have the resources and should have been "blowing out" the coverage to their ignorant, right wing based TV viewers last night. But it was exactly the opposite.
Could you imagine CNN or MSNBC only providing roughly 2 hours of coverage for the South Carolina Democratic Primary in 2008?
On a good note. It was real good to see MSNBC WIPE-OUT FOX news ON A WEEKEND when it comes to all day political coverage. I hope the ratings were strong enough for them to further move network programing away form weekend prison porn. And give us real news.

(48,968 posts)Sorry that the link is to The Daily Caller (another faux news site), but they do have video of Hume's remarks:
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/22/hume-republicans-in-congress-will-be-terrified-to-run-with-gingrich-will-try-to-defeat-him-video/
-snip-
And theyll be more to the case to be made against Newt Gingrich as a possible nominee by Republican officeholders especially those in the House and the Senate across the country and heres why, he said. From the latest Fox New/Opinion Dynamics poll these numbers will change as they do from time to time this is favorability versus unfavorability: Mitt Romney, 45 [percent] favorable, 38 [percent] unfavorable; Ron Paul 35 [percent] favorable, 40 [percent] unfavorable; Rick Santorum, 31 [percent] favorable, 34 [percent] unfavorable; Newt Gingrich 27 percent favorable, 56 percent unfavorable.
That, according to Hume, will force something of a revolt from these members of Congress against Gingrich so they wont suffer in the November election cycle.
Believe me, Republicans in Congress will be terrified to run with this man for fear they will lose the House and Senate, Hume said. They will begin to do what they can to try to defeat him because they fear he cant win the election and, moreover, he may drag many of them down to defeat with him. He has a lot of work to do to change their minds. Im not sure he can.

(21,078 posts)good feedback for the weekend coverage, the prison shows will be dropped. I wouldn't even mind watching re-runs of MJoe. Almost always interesting guests and discussions. For instance when Colbert was a guest last week, Heileman (I'm not sure how to spell it) went into discussion as to how he and Colbert had been college classmates. It was funny and informative.
