Why is gun porn allowed on DU GD forum?

NRA lobby has long ago taken over the so called (gun control forum)
I've hid the thread, because it's disturbing.
Again, why are there numerous threads about right to carry concealed weapons here?

1. People are making their political reputations at the expense of others. It's all about ME fuck what

other people need. So the culture of the Ulitmate Me comes here to advertise itself and build cliques of other Mes.

8. about a year ago, I posted something on in a spiritual nature here

forget what it was, but in no way was in offensive & defiantly not religious in nature.

It was immediately locked, my feeling were hurt at the time, the moderators told me I could appeal.
They told were kind enough & told me it was in the wrong place.

When the so called (gun control) forum was created, I 1st thought it was a positive thing. But the 2nd Amnd righters quickly turned it into an advocacy forum for changing laws for guns in school, right to carry ect.

9. DU does want things in the right forum so the people who are interested in the topic have a better

chance of noticing it and Replying to you.

Yeah, the gungeon is over-flowing into other forums.

And it's actually worse than that, because the crazies go out and mess with other topics (so they're not technically talking about the wrong stuff in the wrong forum). They are "on topic" in other forums, but, pardon me if it's offensive, FUCKING with people for no reason other than to assert their control over this board and interfere with ideas and discussion.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is doing this, but a hallmark of this kind of activity is if they are being extreme, and being mean and rude, and not answering polite questions. That's the best thing to do when you think someone is trying to bother you, ask them polite very pointed questions about the topic, lots of questions, keep asking and others will see it if they don't give you polite reasonable replies. At some point, it is a good idea to consider just walking away. That's what I do and I don't talk to them again until they are polite and reasonable.

11. Thank you so much for the advice, it is greatly appreciated patrice,

I've blocked gungeon threads long ago, and you are so right, we're seeing the overflow in allot of forum's.
There was a time, people who voted Dem were against violence & for gun control, things have changed.

culture has truly gone blind to all but violence.

And the reality-based community should know it.

pretending to be significant followed by packs of uninformed and rather mean cheer leaders . . .
because this http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022010244 is what is going on.

Seriously, aren't there enough places on the web where enthusiasts can discuss guns?

It creates a lot of animosity on an otherwise good site.

7. Can't actually discuss guns in GC/RKBA

It violates the SOP of that group. One can post about guns in the Outdoor Life group.

Edit: One can get around that restriction in GC/RKBA by framing the discussion as part of self defense, gun control or guns used in crimes.

14. One would think that DOES violate the "well regulated" requirement of the 2nd Amendment. &

What do you think of this critique? Lastlib, here at DU, started this conversation several months ago:

Have you noticed a tendency to ignore or outright delete the 3rd comma in the original text of the 2nd Amendment?

The original text of the 2nd Amendment:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and
bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Though many people have little idea of the mechanics of the logic of independent and subordinate clauses, which is applied by means of commas, the founding fathers were educated men with pretty conservative attitudes towards the grammar and mechanics of English composition, so there's a huge difference in the logic of the 2nd amendment with the 3rd comma that they used, compared to without it.

The 3rd comma makes "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" a SUBORDINATE clause, NOT part of the main clause.

Without the 3rd comma, which apparently is a frequent "mistake" (or people just talk about the amendment as though there is no 3rd comma in it) the main clause seems to be "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" and the other two phrases are modifiers of that sentence.

With the 3rd comma the main clause is, "A well regulated militia, , , shall not be infringed", establishing a REGULATED defense, with 2 subordinate clauses that modify that something like this:

"Militia" in "A well regulated Militia shall not be infringed" is modified by a verbal/participle functioning as an adjective making it a "Militia" "being necessary to the security of a free State".

- and -

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" is another verbal, an infinitive in this case, functioning as an appositive noun, which re-states and adds information about the form of the regulated militia as a collective right of the people. That makes it the collective right of the people to a well regulated militia.

Please watch your emails and other places people quote or talk about the 2nd Amendment and see if this is true.

20. Except that the States didn't ratify a version with three commas:

As passed by the Congress:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Where does two commas leave you?

21. 2 commas? That's only 1. At any rate you still have the modifier, in whole or in part, depending upo

n whether we're talking about 2 commas, now, or just 1, as in your example, which modifier contains the descriptors "a well regulated militia", which, as I understand it, is the bone of contention at this point.

29. Quite right. Comma counting fail!

A well educated public being necessary to the function of a democratic republic, the right of the people to keep and read books shall not be infringed.

So who gets to keep and read books - the people, or the public?

27. Too many revere the "Founding Fathers" and refuse to go against their will

I have enough respect for them to, I think, rightfully assume, that all good and wise fathers desire their children to grow up and make their own decisions.

I think they, all of them, would be the first one to tell us that they were not gods. Yet, why do we treat them as such?

While the obvious troll with less than 25 posts who just copied and pasted a bunch of strawmen off of the NRA website will be allowed to keep their OP up.

Kind of sad to see how far DU has slid in the past couple of year.

22. Because the Democratic party platform affirms our support for gun rights?

And because in the wake of big news stories mods tend to let OP's about gun control stay in GD for a while.

Also, "gun porn" usually means posts with pictures of guns. Posts talking about concealed carry laws are about policy.

We were having a reasonable discussion about possible solutions and they have swept in with the old tired NRA gun ownership talking points and lack of reasoning. Its the same old shitty talking points that I have heard every time there was a gun incident and that dates back almost fifteen years for me.

It makes me really determined now to get something done.

No more dead babies and no more innocent victims from now on.
