Use the GOP abortion tactic for gun control

The GOP doesn't try to directly attack Roe v Wade, mainly because the existence of R v W is such a cash cow for their fund raising efforts. Yet, they managed to draft and pass many anti-abortion and anti-birth control laws to make getting birth control or abortion effectively impossible.

Perhaps the Democrats should take a page from the GOP on this tactic and instead of trying to over turn the second amendment, craft and create laws that effectively makes owning or buying guns impossible. The best way is to hit the gun owners economically. Charge a 500% tax on all ammunition sold. Require onerous finger printing and such. (The second amendment says the right to bear arms shall not be infringed, but it doesn't say that there can't be any procedures to follow to obtaining a gun.)

The GOP is great at doing these things: end-run around Roe v Wade, voter ID laws and voter suppression actions that end-runs the Voting Rights Act or the Civil Rights Act. So, the Democrats should look at passing laws to end-runs the second amendment.

1. Dems lack the balls

always have always will, too many dems world rather make nice.

It is the single biggest thing that disgusts me about dems.

Their ability to effectively fight back.

4. It ain't that they ain't got the ballls. They just want to keep their jobs.

Its the difference between being a legislator and voting responsibly or holding a position and collecting a paycheck and pension.

5. There's a difference between "voting responsibly"

and "representing your constituents".

Or is there?

10. Interesting thought

Roy Ashburn comes to mind in that kind of discussion. Closeted (at the time) but represented Kern County in California, very conservative place.

2. Dems lack the "balls" and the votes. The Rethugs control most state legislatures and 29/50

governorships.

Since Congress won't do anything, we can try to take back state houses in 2014. Redistricting will make it hard, but we have to try and get out the vote.

That's all I got.

6. That's the tactics big cities have used, but RW judges have struck down

New York, Chicago, and DC have strict laws but have been attacked from the right and have found friendly courts ruling against them. This is one of the reasons the Dems need to remember during all election cycles, you have to fight at every level in all elections to make the government reflect the people.

If only the "motivated" voters turn out, the general population will not be represented.

9. Most were struck down because they...

... Flew in the face of the 2nd amendment.

8. The problem you and others fail to grasp though is the 2nd amendment itself.

No, I am not "pro-gun" but I am pro-reality and in reality the only way to address the gun issue in the end would be by amending the Constitution itself.

11. Another of their tactics might work

We could picket gun stores, bearing posters with pictures of the dead children of Newton.
