Newtown is Obama's 9/11

On 9/11, a horrified country united.

And as a result, Bush was able to take the country in terrible directions, toward a doctrine of pre-emptive war, evaporating civil liberties, and even torture.

Today is Obama's 9/11. It's time to stop tweaking around the edges and celebrating compromises that simply make things less bad. It's time to start making things right, beginning with telling the NRA where they can put their guns.

2. This is fundamentally different from 9/11...

This President is one who was popularly and decisively elected. Also, President Obama didn't flee for several hours.

3. I disagree

It's a tragedy and a terrible thing. But it's not that same............

8. As Rahm Emmanuel said...

...never let a good crisis go to waste.

It may be a crass way to put it, but the only solace anyone might be able to take out of this tragedy is that maybe something good can come out of it. And that's my point... Obama should not let this go to waste. Nothing will bring back these kids, all we can hope for is that somehow the country is made better for it. You know, the opposite of what Bush did to the country out of that other disaster.

6. No, this isn't anything 9/11

This is 27 families losing loved ones, 20 dead children.

WTF?

7. They are both unifying/rallying moments for a nation.

And this is as viscerally shocking to any parent in the country as 9/11 was to any of us.
