Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Fri Dec 14, 2012, 06:58 PM

Today seems to have created the greatest cry for gun control since ever.

Don't let it go for naught.

It seems out president is with us.

Take the insanity out of the RKBA faction. Their hobbies and paranoia aren't worth it.

1. The ball is in Obama's court. I don't believe he'll do anything with it.

He'll just keep giving heartfelt speeches every time there is another shooting spree. He's really good at it.

7. Do you think he can sign an executive order

banning certain guns? I could be wrong, but I think adding clauses to the Constitution require more than just a signature.

2. Maybe. I don't get my hopes up about that any more.

If Columbine wasn't enough, Aurora wasn't enough, Tuscon wasn't enough, this won't be enough. Specifically -- the right-wing scumbags who live for their stupid, violent ideals will never, ever back down. No matter what horror happens, no matter how many kindergarten kids are pointlessly murdered. The NRA will only hire more lobbyists to buy off more right-wing scum in Congress and nothing happens. Ever. I despair for this country at times like this.

3. I didn't think they would buck Grover Norquist, either.

Change is possible.

6. People are really upset this time, and...

...may remain so for days. Possibly even a week or two.

In the long run, apathy will prevail, as always.
