168 children killed in drone strikes in Pakistan since start of campaign

This isn't even a new story, or the most recent count. The article is from August, 2011 ...

In an extensive analysis of open-source documents, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found that 2,292 people had been killed by US missiles, including as many as 775 civilians.

The strikes, which began under President George W Bush but have since accelerated during the presidency of Barack Obama, are hated in Pakistan, where families live in fear of the bright specks that appear to hover in the sky overhead.

In just a single attack on a madrassah in 2006 up to 69 children lost their lives.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/pakistan/8695679/168-children-killed-in-drone-strikes-in-Pakistan-since-start-of-campaign.html

It just ... somehow ... seemed worth mentioning today.

Your lack of concern is noted.

2. there is no such thing as comparative pain.

yes, the actions in the middle east (ours and theirs) do not diminish the pain of the loss of the children today.

just as the loss of the children doesn't lessen my pain of putting my 15 year old Border Collie to sleep today.

10. Didn't see that one

But I think the timing is appropriate. The way people on this forum are feeling right now, is the way people in Pakistan (and other countries) feel when it is their children. There isn't a more appropriate time to create some empathy.

You are using this story as political leverage, which is really low.
How about waiting a day or two?

just empathy, in a day or two the feeling would have faded.

But, this is a political website I believe.

20. Yes, in a day or 2 the feelings of disgust for the person who brought it up would have faded.

"just empathy, in a day or two the feeling would have faded"? Translates to: the political leverage won't work as well in a day or two.

21. Ok, have it your way but ...

Do you think anyone might use this as political leverage against the NRA?

Essentially the US is to Pakistan (and other places) as the NRA is to this shooting. Not a totally fair analogy, but if the NRA was a foreign organization it would be closer.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Hey ya "newbie" ...Someone should alert on you for calling someone a troll instead of debating the op. Don't waste another jury for your BS.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: me too.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: So sorry the person who alerted is tired of seeing how we're increasing terrorism by killing children. There are no violations I can see in the post even if it is based on old news stories. Will it be inappropriate to cite the killing of a whole kindergarten class in a post or news story a year from now?
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Bullshit alert. You don't get to hide everything that you disagree with because it comes with a low post count. I hereby propose that 3 failed alerts within a week should result in a revocation of your alerting privileges.

42. It depends on where ...

In the regions of Pakistan that tend to get bombed there is little/no media (no electricity, no television, maybe radio) but outside of there, quite a bit. It's leading international news ... all around the world.

But when it happens elsewhere (unless it's Europe) it barely makes US news.

19. The poster has a valid point

no matter how many times it's posted.

All children are precious and fragile.

Whether the death of children occurs by drone strike or by rifle fire - the children are still dead, still beloved and grieved by their families.

This world appears to hate children wherever they are.

We must take accountability and repsonsibilty whenever children are gunned down, no matter the reason we might use to justify their deaths.

The truth is godammned fucking UGLY,

look at it....

Your complaint barely makes sense.

"If you have a problem with the drone policy of the US, take it up with Washington"

does

"If you have a problem with the gun control policy of the US, take it up with Washington" also work? Would that also be an appropriate response? Because it's basically the same argument.

Sorry that reality offends you. The word princess comes to mind.

30. DB, I don't think the poster is trying to minimize the deaths of those children

However, I think we in the US DO minimize the deaths of chidren outside the US.

Now is the time for serious self-examination of ALL of the policies that put children at risk.

My brother lives very close to the shootings today. I am horrified. But I am also aware that I am a hypocrite if I am not horrified at the deaths of innocents anywhere.

Whether this poster is a troll or not I don't care.

I DO care about all of the babies in this world.

I just finally was able to see pictures of my brother's new grandbaby, born last night. She is beautiful and I finally smiled for the first time today.

I want a safer world for her and for ALL children.

There isn't a thing wrong with that in my mind.

Peace
