Boehner Cancels Saturday GOP Radio Address, to cede time to President Obama

Boehner Cancels Saturday GOP Radio Address

House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) announced in a brief statement that there would be no Republican radio address this weekend due to the shooting in Connecticut. Traditionally President Barack Obama and a Republican leader each deliver a brief address for radio every weekend.

“There will be no weekly Republican address this weekend so that President Obama can speak for the entire nation at this time of mourning,” Mr. Boehner said. “I join the president—and all Americans—in sending prayers and condolences to the victims’ loved ones.”

1. While it appears to be a decent move on his part.

I find myself suspecting the Republicans don't actually want to talk about this shooting any more than necessary. They're more comfortable letting Obama set the course of dialog, so they then have something to use to deflect from the real issue.

I'm probably being too cynical, though.

10. Not too cynical at all. That is exactly what I thought when I read the OP.

2. I am nearly stunned

Rational, thoughtful, non partisan behavior by a republican - I had given up hope of ever seeing it, again.

4. The shooting in Connecticut notwithstanding

It's not as though Boehner really had anything to say.

6. He's probably assessing the situation "Is this bad for republicans or good for republicans."

Or perhaps he consulted his Magic 8 Ball for the answer and it came up "Ask at a later time."

Yeah, you gotta have time to think, boner. Think real hard about how your party is gonna get thru this monstrosity. Pro-gunners are going down along with the anti-choicers and the racists.

This Party is SO over...
