Citizens Rally In Front Of White House To Demand President Obama Take Action On Gun Control

More than 150 individuals held a vigil in front of the White House this afternoon to grieve for today’s tragic school shooting in Connecticut and encourage President Obama to take real, meaningful action on gun control.
Strangers exchanged hugs and prayed for the victims and their families in the shadow of the White House approximately an hour after President Obama addressed the shooting, fighting back tears in an afternoon statement. Many attendees held signs saying “Enough is enough” and “Today is the day”.

1. Good. Wish I could be out there.

We need more and more, demanding attention 24 hours a day until something is done about this. We've had enough!

5. So what say you to a law that requires that all guns be secured so that NO ONE can access them

unless the actual registered owner is actually using them? And that subjects negligent gun owners to the same punishment that perps who use their negligently unsecured guns are subject to?

I think that's extremely generous and fair. We COULD just give them all the DP and be done with their stupidity.

7. Believe it not gun manufacturers

Are working on that problem. It's early, but a few PDs are now issuing weapons that will only work with one officer. Technology is early, but bio-locks are no longer cyberpunk

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/sciencenotfiction/2009/09/15/district-9-the-dna-key-to-that-trigger-lock/

Ten to fifteen years. What would be ideal is if a modern day glock, for example, can receive a back fit.

But this would mean that today's shooting, assuming the guns were smart guns and read on,y his mother's bio print, would have gone click, instead of boom.

Oh and they are doing that ostensibly to protect cops in the field, in reality liability.

Go ahead, call me a cynic.

8. there's only so much President Obama can actually do about it

Thanks to the 2010 election, we won't be able to pass any meaningful firearms control laws until at least 2032.

9. They should be standing out in front of

the House Of Reps, too.. where such laws have died.

I'm sure the President will have more to say about this tomorrow in his Saturday address. I read boner said the repubs weren't going to have a counter address..

Mark Knoller

✔@markknoller Speaker Boehner cancels Repulicans' Weekly Address tomorrow "so that Pres Obama can speak for the entire nation at this time of mourning."

12. ^^^^ THIS ^^^^

I'm not sure why the go to protest spot is the WH? Maybe more cameras? You are exactly right about Congress, I'm just not so sure the impassioned activists know how a bill actually becomes law. I'm not sure what unilateral action people are calling on the president to take. It's mind boggling.
