REPEAL THE 2ND AMENDMENT

We are a nation of laws.

WE make the decisions as to what the law is.

WE THE PEOPLE.

We can, you know, repeal the 2nd amendment. How many children must die? We can change the law. If enough people with enough anger rise up and say enough of this.

We ended slavery. We can ban guns.

It is time to make a stand for what is right. The death rate via guns in this country is outrageous and must be stopped.

Please sign this White House.gov petition about gun control policy.

This "we simply can't do it" is bullshit.

3. I agree

The idea was to protect us from government. Unless you have a nuke in your yard, your gun is of no use.

6. I've pointed this out in another thread

and the pro gun people came out of the woodwork to tear me a new one.

Ask the Iraqi army how well an ak-47 works against a B-52.

I guess the guns will have to be confiscated as they're found, but if you're advocating a house-to-house search, count me out.

9. We don't need to repeal it. We DO need to obey the Constitution and ensure that our

Well-Regulated Militia is indeed WELL-REGULATED. Because it's pretty damned clear that right now it's not.

Said regulation must include determining who may and may not be a member, with ANY behavior or mental issues being a lifetime disqualifier.

10. Repeal is fine

Well regulated militia is as anachronistic as slavery.

11. A "well-regulated militia" is required by the Constitution, so we have it and can't get rid of it.

But the intent that it be WELL-REGULATED is abundantly clear.

And if it were well-regulated, these sorts of mass murders and most if not all of our gun violence would be impossible.

I have had quite enough of the whining from the gun rights crowd.

13. Right to bear arms is an anachronism

Just like municipal bylaws require a little weeding from time to time because they are no longer relevant, so does a government's constitution. The people of the US are no longer fugitives from England and Europe looking to escape depraved monarchies who taxed their people into starvation and persecuted those with religious differences (well a few may still be). It's time to take a look at the reason behind the "right to bear arms" and realize that it only exists because the drafters of the constitution were afraid of ending up with a despotic government and wanted some way to ensure its demise. This is 2012. The US military is the largest and most well armed in the world. What possible chance could a rabble armed with handguns have in defeating a well armed machine. With deadly gas, biological weaponry and all manner of explosive fire power, rebels would be blasted out of existence or killed in some other way. The US is a democracy and as such the people have the power to vote for the government and society they really want. Voluntary gun control is as effective as herding cats. Ownership of a handgun should be as difficult as possession of plutonium. If you can't make a persuasive case for owning it, you shouldn't have one.

As a Canadian, where handgun ownership is illegal, I would be very happy if American handguns were no longer being smuggled into our country to be used by criminals in drive by shootings. Believe me, but for American handgun smuggling we'd have virtually no gun crime except for the odd shooting in the countryside by drunks with rifles.

16. how about we discuss things that might actually happen

since it would take, what, 30 states to do that?

How about free mental health screenings and violence prevention programs in school and changing the absurd standards of morality in this country where violence is celebrated and sex is shunned.

19. It would take 38 states to ratify a Constitutional Amendment.

Any 13 states that refused to ratify would block it.

20. Change

Fear of change is a problem in America. With professional psychologists, the NRA crafts it's heinous corporate greed by spreading fear into the hearts of gun owners to promote frenzied gun purchasing padding their own coffers and aiding political control. It is all about the money over the safety of our children and ourselves. It is unfortunate these gun advocates who fear change do not realize that they are only pawns of corporate fascism in America. Wake up before you or your child is killed!!
