Though on the positive side, I think the term has been overused so much that it carries a bit less weight with the public in general. Maybe that's just me though.

it's a countdown clock for the new year, and if it had been labelled as such it would be just a nice thing, if somewhat comical when it's still weeks away.

but no, it's billed as a fiscal cliff countdown clock, as if at midnight, alarms will sound and tax collectors will rise en masse from the fiery pits of hell to stalk the rich.
