ALTO, MI – Michigan House Democrats are calling an assistant majority floor leader a hypocrite for proposing an amendment that would have exempted her husband from right-to-work bills that lawmakers passed, and Gov. Snyder then signed into law.

State Rep. Lisa Posthumus Lyons, R-Alto, was among right-to-work supporters quoted in The New York Times on Tuesday, Dec. 11, saying “this is the day that Michigan freed its workers.” But she also proposed to add corrections officers to the list of public employees - including police and fire - not covered by the right-to-work law.

The amendment was gaveled down and did not come up for a vote.

“When we talk about the brave women in police and fire we need to remember people in corrections,” said Lyons, whose husband, Brad Lyons, is a corrections officer. “These guys work in conditions that we can’t even begin to imagine.

5. Screw us, and thank them for it

Republicans across the country are attempting to rob you of opportunity and increase the already enormous profits for their corporate backers, and then they’ll ask you to thank them for it.

Geezus, I can't stand these people with their "fuck you all, but the rules don't apply to me" attitudes.

12. I see people like her all of the time in my business.

Usually, I am telling them that unfortunately, due to tort reform, they no longer have a claim for what they are seeing me for. They tell me that their case is not like my other cases, theirs is REAL! They think they are "special." Well, I'll tell you this much, they sure are "special" alright! The shock to them to find out that what they thought was true because Governor "Good Hair" Perry, Hannity, or Limpballs said it was turned out to be a lie! Sometimes, well, once in a blue moon, you can see the wheels turn as they start to realize that if this tort reform thing isn't good like they were told it was (it didn't only harm minorities, it got them), then maybe they were lied to about other things.

20. The firefighters' union in Wisconsin knew this

That's why they (and some police unions) supported the protests, although they were exempted from Walker's law. (We'll never forget the firefighters' bagpipe band marching through the Capitol rotunda.)

14. Reminds me of the exemptions some Congressmen got for select businesses in their district

in exchange for their "yes" vote on NAFTA.

These same members went around telling how NAFTA would be a win-win for the U.S. and Mexico. Funny how they really didn't believe it when it came to industry in their districts or state. Otherwise, they would have unconditionally voted for it, right? Had it not been for these cherry-picking deals struck with individual members or blocs of members of Congress, NAFTA would not have passed in the House.

23. What Is The Difference

I really do not get this idea that certain groups should be exempt from right-to-work laws. So, why should firefighters, police men, and certain other groups be allowed to demand that everyone be in a union and pay union dues, but other groups should not be allowed to do the same? I am not asking this because I support right-to-work laws. I am asking this because Republicans claim their should be right-to-work laws, but those laws should only apply to certain people. I cannot see why right-to-work laws, if they should be enacted, should apply only to certain people.

I really think someone, if no one has already asked the question, should ask Republicans why they think only certain people should be covered by right-to-work laws. Why should someone's occupation determine if they are covered by right-to-work laws? Are Republicans saying only certain people should be allowed to have a middle class life provided by a middle class job?

then why do they exempt fire and police? Don't they believe that these people, who daily place their lives on the line, deserve to be freed?
