I Hope This Does Not Come Off As Insentive To Anybody, But... A Quick Story...Last edited Tue Dec 11, 2012, 10:51 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
A Quick Story...
When the economy crashed this last time (2008), an Africa American Woman who I work closely with, and consider a good friend... Looked at me all concerned, and asked, "Bill... are your people gonna be alright ???" And I laughed hysterically, and gave her a one finger salute... and we both started giggling. Point being... She and her extended family have been dealing with this shit for YEARS. They know where the thrift stores are, they know how to work the Underground Economy, they know which churches they can appeal to, who they can barter and trade with, etc.... And yet they survive. And in some cases flourish. She gave me a wink as she walked away, and said... "Well... we all N*****s Now !!!" And again we both laughed. I had no idea at the time, how correct she was.

4. Not Insensitive at all. You are clearly "good folks"
|
The first people I always engage at a new job or any setting are the nice ladies. If I can work in "good folks" I get nods - they know I am all right.
Great story. |

8. Good story and unfortunately, all too true.
|
Or should I say, fortunately, all too true. Why is it that those with the least are the most appreciative of what they have and there is something quite beautiful about that. The pigs at the top only seem to appreciate MORE!

11. Some in the house, some in the field...
|
"There was two kind of slaves. There was the house negro and the field negro. The house negro, they lived in the house, with master. They dressed pretty good. They ate good, cause they ate his food, what he left. They lived in the attic or the basement, but still they lived near their master, and they loved their master, more than their master loved himself ..." Here's a link. The parser won't let me put it in the brackets. http://www.zimbio.com/Black+History+Month/articles/265/Malcolm+X+House+Negro+vs+Field+Negro Malcom X had a specific point to make to people who needed to stand up for themselves. Move it forward to today, change the word white to corporate, and one might find the truth hasn't changed. The crowd of brothers and sisters are indistinguishable to the wolf by their mere color. And that's not a change either. |
