Breaking news, shooting in Portland

One witness at the Clackamas Town Center told television station KATU at least two people were shot, and he saw sheets put over them.

Another witness told the station she saw people screaming and parents grabbing their children as they fled the mall.

3. Not sure why you need a breaking news tag for this

Shootings happen every day in this country.

It's not like a shooting is a rare occurrence in the good 'ol US of A

And it is being reported.

8. If I posted every time 2 people got shot here in Chicago you guys would be pretty sick of me.

Actually, you probably already are sick of me.

9. Location, location, location

Hell, we have mass shootings in the shooting gallery here in San Diego, which you could not pay me enough to cover...but if this was La Jolla...I would be there, not here.

You knew that.

But the problem here is the mo. Man in cammy, with high power rifle and sixty shots...that is why this is different than the local shooting gallery.

13. If it was someone black in Chicago it would be on the news without the crazy hype unless it happened

in a wealthy white neighborhood. It's not just location. It's race also.

14. Oh goes without saying

But that also has to do with tv vs print.

Silly local example, we had a fire at a local trash processing center. Those have potential to be dangerous. By the time I got there it was mostly soggy, no longer dangerous, mess. I took my photos, talked to the Public Information Officer and explained to readers that flames shot up when they pulled the trash out, adding oxygen, but at no time there was any danger of losing control.

Hazmat cleared the effluent as well, aka meets EPA standards...

My tv counterpart staid two more hours for the live shot...and went over the dangerous situation.

Fire people give me more of the skinny since they know I will explain things to people, but will avoid sensationalism. I guess having done the job lets me know what is going on.

15. Hats off to you for being a firefighter!

It's not an easy job and you are wonderful for having been one.
Was this before or after you were a cop?
