Too many 3rd Wayers around here? Well, look at it this way--

For the most part, they get pretty well stomped by the majority--sort of like Whatsisname Coma or Colmes or whatever that Fux hires as a punching bag for Hannity.

Social psychology long ago established that the best way to change opinions was not just to argue against them, but to push forward an assertive argument against a weak-kneed defender. Again, just like Hannity and Coma.

So just rally your best arguments and keep on treating the Neocon/3rd Way/"Progressive" Policy Institute types like punching bags and, however annoying they may be, realize that they too can serve a purpose.

Just like Coma.

1. I keep hearing about this

Third Way, so I just went to their site. So basically they call themselves centrists and then do all of their polling research by talking to republicans...at least that's my impression from reading their Social Security report. Is that a correct assessment?

2. Pretty much.

They're corporatist sellouts, the old Democratic Leadership Council back in the early 90's. They originated as Dems who decided they had to be "business-friendly" in order to get the big-buck contributions to say "competitive."

Of course, then you also have the corporate sell-out wannabes.

but there are a lot more anti-Obama folks claiming that anyone who doesn't agree with them is a "3rd Wayers."

23. Are you

"Obama's policies are DLCThirdWay policies"

...trying to prove my point?

A Good Day

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Bernie Sanders welcomed the ruling. "Today is a good day for millions of Americans who have pre-existing conditions who can no longer be rejected by insurance companies. It is a good day for families with children under 26 who can keep their children on their health insurance policies. It is a good day for women who can no longer be charged far higher premiums than men.

"It is a good day for 30 million uninsured Americans who will have access to healthcare. It is a good day for seniors who will continue to see their prescription drug costs go down as the so-called doughnut hole goes away. It is a good day for small businesses who simply cannot continue to afford the escalating costs of providing insurance for their employees. It is a good day for 20 million Americans who will soon be able to find access to community health centers.

"It is an especially good day for the state of Vermont, which stands to receive hundreds of millions of dollars in additional federal funds to help our state achieve universal health care.

"In my view, while the Affordable Care Act is an important step in the right direction and I am glad that the Supreme Court upheld it, we ultimately need to do better. If we are serious about providing high-quality, affordable healthcare as a right, not a privilege, the real solution to America's health care crisis is a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system. Until then, we will remain the only major nation that does not provide health care for every man, woman and child as a right of citizenship.

"I am proud that Vermont is making steady progress toward implementing a single-payer system. I hope our state will be a model to show the rest of the nation how to provide better care at less cost to more people."

32. Apparently it would have been better

if Obama had just walked away and left it all on the table. After failing to get the public option it would have been preferable to accept complete and total defeat and thereby ensured that any health care reform would become a third rail that no one could touch for generations to come. Yeah, that's what he should have done.

It's only a tiny bit better than reading stuff from the right wing. I can't believe the crap that's posted about the POTUS here. I left four years ago because of it and thought it might be better by now. It's not. No wonder we don't get people out to vote for midterms. Now that the election is over this place seems to be dominated by voter depression squads. Someone called Obama a Reagan Democrat on a thread earlier today. What kind of utter bullshit is that? Why not just demand his birth certificate and be done with it?

Are you referring to one thing he said once that was widely taken out of context? Kind of like the Romney campaign did so often more recently? Do you even know what a Reagan Democrat is? It's a blue collar guy who switched to the Reagan, mostly out a fear that minorites were getting too good a deal under Democrats. That's for the most part who Reagan Democrats were.

that is an insult to decency. Reagan democrats, as you pointed out were people that hated groups that they thought were getting a better deal than they were, regardless of the quality and contributions of people they hated. People need to understand what the FUCK a term means before using it.

22. That is the thing. You don't really believe in free trade, you like the label.

You want protections for our workers and consumers which means not free but fair which isn't the same thing at all.

The actual free traders won't correct you because they want you to continue to help them dismantle and prevent the types of policies you actually agree with.

YOU GOT BORGED!

They absorbed your energy and votes and are taking you for a ride. They are fundamentally opposed to anything but the social Darwinist version of trade and could give a shit if Americans have a pot to piss in. Well, I'll take that back they definitely do not want Americans with a pot to piss in unless they stumble on it via their secular religion which reality does not reconcile with.

manufacturing workers. Why should I pay $45 for a pair of jeans that were made in China when I can pay $40 for the same pair of jeans that are made by mainland american workers? Why should I pay $200 for a dress shirt that was made in China when I can pay $185 for the same shirt made by mainland american workers? I believe in free trade, but if it hurts my country people, I don't.

We have a Third Wayer, aka "New Democrat" (read, shit all over the New Deal so corporations will really really like them) in the WHITE HOUSE for godsakes. His entire cabinet are Third Wayers. They serve a purpose, alright but it's not MY purpose. As long as they continue to support Big Corporations at the expense of the poor and the middle class I've no intention on cozying up to them.
