But that's all I know as he only briefly texted a response when I inquired about his whereabouts.

Shots fired at Clackamas Town Center, dispatch reports

The mall was locked down, according to an employee at Nordstrom. A witness told KGW she heard several gunshots near there, before people ran out of the mall.

Witness John Canzano told KGW shots were fired near the food court.

Several police agencies and emergency vehicles were on the scene.

Canzano said all the store security cages were immediately closed.

35. I don't give a crap about the emoticons

So many people will only see the title and most of us here understand that.

Even with the emoticons I still find it offensive this person posted that while the event is still going on. If three people have been killed will it still be so funny?

Yes, I agree black humor is one way we manage to stay sane. But I believe as humans we have an obligation to reign in that black humor until a mass-shooting event is over. Go for it on Iraq (don't for a minute believe we're out of Iraq), Afghanistan, and other topics that are ongoing. I don't feel one needs to wait for the end of that sort of thing because they are very much long-term.

But posting that while there is possibly still an armed shooter in a mall is just wrong.

50. Sorry for the offense. I agree - there was some degree of "inapproriateness" in my comment.

But on the whole I do not have a problem with gallows humor - from me or anyone else.

My apologies to the steadfastly inoffensive.

PORTLAND Three people were shot and a suspect was on the loose inside the Clackamas Town Center mall Tuesday, which is now in lockdown.

Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies said it was an "active shooting call." The Oregonian reported two dead.

At least three people were hit, according to American Medical Response, after ten to 15 shots were fired by a person in a hockey mask. One patient was taken to the hospital, AMR said.

A witness reported the suspect had a rifle and it jammed, before he dropped a magazine onto the floor and ran into the Macy's.

42. Yes - my sister, nephew and his son came close

to being victims of a mall shooter a few years ago - during the Christmas season. Had my nephew not insisted they stop into the Eddie Bauer store, they would have likely been hit. The shooting was just outside that store. The clerks remained calm and guided all their customers to the back room until it was over.

A young man could not handle being dumped by his girlfriend so some people had to die and one man has to live the rest of his life paralyzed.
Guns and sociopaths.

46. I don't think I can take this anymore.

WHEN is this country finally going to reach its tipping point on this shit? How many lives and how many rivers of blood does it take to make that happen? I don't wanna hear the usual bullshit this time from the RKBA nutters, "guns don't kill people, people do", "just arm everyone and it'll prevent this", etc., etc., yaddayaddablahblahblah. The more this happens, the more the nutters double down and we get even more pro-gun laws and even more doubling down on ANY attempts at all to prevent it.

Well, guess what? I'm tired of hearing about the "freedoms" of gun nutters. What about the freedom of we citizens, what about MY freedom, to be able to go about our daily business without being blown away by some goddamn fucking nut with a gun being free to go anywhere he wants with his phallic symbol? WHERE'S OUR FREEDOM? This is a public health crisis and the medical and public health and mental health professions cannot even address it because when they try, they're legally prevented from doing so by gun nutters and their bought and paid for politicians.

Merry Fucking Christmas, you goddamned fucking gun nuts. I hope you are happy.

49. "rivers of blood"

I get it: you're upset and emotionally overwrought. That's a perfectly understandable reaction. I'm pretty upset about this myself Heck, I live about ten miles from where it happened. It's even a pretty good justification for over-the-top hyperbole. But it's a damn poor state of mind in which to suggest public policy changes (speaking generally there, not saying you were doing the latter...).

Is this really a "crisis?" Are these incidents actually on the rise (or is that simply the perception)? What specific measures that are actually feasible might reduce the number of such incidents? Di incidents of people "going off" even come close to the numbers of people killed or seriously injured by garden-variety (and non-newsworthy) violent crime?

Not trying to jump on you, but these questions need to be addressed rationally and objectively, with solutions devised in light of the demonstrable facts of the matter.

But my point was that addressing this situation (crisis or otherwise) requires a rational, fact-based, analytic approach. Matters of sweeping public policy always do.

52. Yes, rivers of blood. And yes, it is a crisis.

Rates of homicide and gun violence in the US are far higher than any other wealthy nation. UK, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, etc. take your pick. All of them have sensible gun laws, compared to the US.

Or had a second gun.

I'm more amazed by the fact the gun jammed. In the Gabby Giffords shooting it jammed and in Aurora the rifle being used jammed.

It really seems like a weird coincidence this happens (not that I'm complaining, its a good thing)
