THANK YOU Mr. President For Being On OUR Side: “Right to Work is the right to work for less”Last edited Mon Dec 10, 2012, 07:06 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)
Obama Slams Michigan ‘Right to Work’ Laws as ‘the Right to Work for Less Money’
Pres. Obama amplifies our message in Michigan: “Right to Work is the right to work for less” (PHOTOS) by Eclectablog on DECEMBER 10, 2012 i Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you. In his visit to the Daimler Detroit Diesel plant in Redford, Michigan today, Presdient Obama amplified and gave full-throated endorsement of the battle being fought to stop Michigan from becoming the nation’s 24th “Right to Work for Less” state: By the way, what we shouldn’t do — I just got to say this — what we shouldn’t be doing is trying to take away your rights to bargain for better wages and working conditions. We shouldn’t be doing that. These so-called “right to work” laws, they don’t have anything to do with economics; they have everything to do with politics. What they’re really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money.
You only have to look to Michigan — where workers were instrumental in reviving the auto industry — to see how unions have helped build not just a stronger middle class but a stronger America. So folks from our state’s capital, all the way to the nation’s capital, they should be focused on the same thing. They should be working to make sure companies like this manufacturer is able to make more great products. That’s what they should be focused on. We don’t want a race to the bottom. We want a race to the top.
I believe America only succeeds and thrives when we’ve got a strong and growing middle class. That’s what I believe. I believe we’re at our best when everybody who works hard has a chance to get ahead; that they can get a job that pays the bills; that they’ve got health care that they can count on; that they can retire with dignity and respect, maybe take a vacation once in a while — nothing fancy, just being able to pack up the kids and go someplace and enjoy time with people that you love; make sure that your kids can go to a good school; make sure they can aspire to whatever they want to be. That idea is what built America. That’s the idea that built Michigan. That’s the idea that’s at the heart of the economic plan I’ve been talking about all year long on the campaign trail.
I want us to bring down our deficits, but I want to do it in a balanced, responsible way. And I want to reward — I want a tax code that rewards businesses and manufacturers like Detroit Diesel right here, creating jobs right here in Redford, right here in Michigan, right here in the United States of America.

that he knows he 'fucked up...big time' on this one.
I don't think he had a clue what would happen but he is about to find out. I'm almost, almost saying that he might walk this one back. Long shot but here is to hoping! Give 'em hell tomorrow in Lansing... |

15. Right to Work in Wyoming
|
Last edited Mon Dec 10, 2012, 07:40 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I have talked to two State of Wyoming employees who are terminated for one day each year so the state does not have to provide them with any benefits. Wyoming is probably the state most financially capable of providing these benefits! Wyoming has been a "Right to Work for Less" state forever.

21. I had a coworker who was opposed to a union to which she COULD belong. She said it was
|
because she always was able to negotiate her work arrangements with her boss. It turned out later that she was sleeping with him. She kinda proudly admitted it and as much as said that it was her "private arrangement" with him. And SHE was married and had kids!
That whole thing made me mad as hell. I couldn't even talk to her, I was so mad... |

I think PO knows what a mistake he made back when WI Scotty boy did what he did. I, too, was disgusted with PO for not going to WI to take a stand for Labor. (However, it did not keep me and my family away from the polls in 2010.) Proceed, Mr President!

20. when your state senators vote for right to work - who's side are they on?
|
I guess they will vote on the side that will give them more until the public speaks up.
I say- Vote them the F^%k out anyway The workers are not asked if they want right to work and it makes it impossible to win any law suit against a controlling company. My company used to say - We're talking about you, not anybody else here. - just to shut you up. In actuality the laws reads that all employees should be treated the same - which means to me that the treatment of other employees is relevant to one's complaint. We are not - Of the people, for the people We are actually - Of the wealthy, for big business and special interest why aren't lobbyists considered illegal? It's just bribery - doing things for the ones with the most money... Let's tell it like it is! |

23. Sorry to offend fellow Southerners here
|
But a lot of the reason why the Gulf States grew is because companies were seeking anti-union governments, which is to say, those that still were built for economies of sharecroppers if not outright slaves. Dixie is right to work, and it is reflected in the wages.

Obama didn't bother going to Madison, WI when the same union worker battle was fought there-- just a few months ago?? During one particular giant pro-worker rally, Obama's plane flew over WI, not once, but twice.
