Republicans needs a reminder: WE ARE NOT THE FUCKING WORLD POLICE.

Thank you very much.

End the Afghanistan misadventure and let the Taliban deal with their own people, and shut down the UNOCAL pipeline and let's go home.

Then scrap or sell off 75% of the weapons involved. Include the UAV's.

Then shut down 95% of the overseas bases (Again, we are not the fucking world police) and sell the land or return it to the host country. Saving untold billions of dollars.

Return to the U.S., and merge Department of Defense to Department of Homeland Security, and use it appropriately - as in border control, immigration reform, terrorist attack prevention, intelligence gathering, etc. If they want to fight us - let the a-holes come over here.

And finally, axe the DoD budget to 3x more than the nearest country - should be more than enough.

2. Most of the real neo-cons are no longer in government.

McCain and Lindsey Graham are the two holdouts.

As much as I like the President getting out of Afghanistan is his call.

3. We still haven't even gotten all the troops home from WW2.

60,000 troops in Germany. 30,000 in Japan. When we go to countries, we never leave.

7. True, but it seems like we NEVER leave places. We have

500,000 troops on 700 bases in 150 different countries. Talk about being the world police.

10. If we were the world police we'd already be in Darfur...

I do not think we are the world police. We are stationed around the world for a variety of reasons whether it's to help stabilize a country, for oil, for political expediance or other reasons. Right or wrong, it's what we do, but the reasons are usually complicated.

11. I would like to know the reasons why. But I can't imagine USA tolerating 100,000 armed

Venezuelans on a base in Texas. The cost to maintain these bases must be staggering. We have bases in 37 Euro Nations, are we concerned about Portugal invading France?

12. How's this for taxpayer dollars well spent

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embassy_of_the_United_States,_Baghdad

The Embassy of the United States in Baghdad is the diplomatic mission of the United States in Iraq. It is located in Baghdad and is home to the Ambassador to Iraq. Ambassador James F. Jeffrey is currently the Chief of Mission.

The Embassy of the United States in Baghdad is the largest and most expensive of any embassy in the world. At 440,000 square meters it is nearly as large as Vatican City. It also employs 15,000 people and cost $750 million to build. The Embassy opened in January 2009

14. The reasons why those bases are in Europe are mostly outdated with the exception of a few...

Some of them act as relays for long distant flights coming out of countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Many are used to layover troops from place to place. I do think it's come down to economic reasons for a lot of bases. The countries make a lot of money from these bases as well as the local economies getting a boost.

Since I was active duty, a lot of bases have been shut down. Three of them I was stationed at have been shut down.

6. We're not the world police, we're the multinational corporate police.

We have lots of corporate interests to protect. We don't give a fuck about people or democracy or ending dictatorship or any of that garbage. Every move we make on the world stage is about money and marketable resources.

I agree with you but what you are asking for is never going to happen. Not in a million years. Because it's not about protecting the "homeland" or national defense because there is no homeland and there is no nation. There are only multinational corporations.

8. Well I think that this would also apply to our current Administration! Don't start any

new wars, and get the fuck out of Afghanistan ASAP. The US is not, and should not be the policeman of the world. Let someone else take up the cause.

15. Why on earth do you restrict your thread title to Republicans?

Until we can be honest about what our own party is doing, we will never fix it.
