Seattle just might have been the happiest place on Earth today.

We just had to drive to City Hall to see. Hundreds of people were there, lined up to marry, flowers and friends and family and photographers and a creperie and many, many people driving by to wave and cheer. It was exhilirating, joyous, people who truly love one another finally, finally being able to be as everyone else is--married. Just married. This thing so many of us take for granted.

The first couple, I hear, got married at one minute after midnight. The wedding was officiated by Justice...I kid you not...Mary Yu.

Congratulations to everyone! Life in Seattle was good today.

10. Every time the voters of the state of Washington have had the issue before them

They've always made the progressive choice. Finally, the asshat fundies forced a vote on something the Legislature and the Governor were solidly behind, but it took the voters of WA to tell the snake handlers where to go on the issue, once and for all.

5. It is a great day in Washington. This was a very good decision on the part of the voters that

passed same sex marriage. Congratulations to all that have married under this new legislation.

6. What's even nicer is that the wedding party could go

and celebrate with a little cannabis if they so wished.

Seattle beat the heck out of Arizona at Centurylink Field! Yes, it's been a very good day there.

11. I feel terrible.

From the thread title, I assumed that's what this thread was about.

Still, very happy! I was worried we wouldn't get this referendum passed, after California last election. You never can tell.

18. I wasn't worried about Washington state

The only thing I'm chagrined about is that Maine had a higher percentage of voters who voted for equal marriage than WA did. Of course, they rejected same-gender marriage a few years ago, I guess it's fitting that they atone for it by a higher percentage in favor of it in 2012.

16. Good job, Washington!

As I sit here, envious, in California with our Constitutional Amendment PROHIBITING same-sex marriage. Hopefully the SC challenge will settle it for ALL states.

17. We have mail only voting

Every registered voter gets mailed a ballot. The whole country should do this.

20. Not at the moment, but come july, August and September, watch out! It's amazing.

But for now, I think people would marry inside, outside, on boats, in flannel on mountaintops, however they wonderfully, LEGALLY can!
