I am so moved and honored

Quite a day. Not only was our congregation was able to have two of the first same sex weddings legally allowed in Washington State this afternoon, and I was able to preside at one of them. It was my very first time as a pastor to preside at a wedding. I don't know who was more excited and nervous, the couple or myself! But seriously was a joy and an honor. We thank both couples ofr allowing us to take part in their joy and also make history!!! As MLK Jr. once said: "the arc of the moral universe tends to bend towards justice!"

3. For many gays marriage doesnt bring them equality. DOMA still weighs heavy on federal workers.

The Pres boldly said he wouldnt enforce DOMA. Those were just words. He might not but his bureaucracy still does. Gay federal employees still can not include their spouses on their insurances.

DOMA needs to be overturned.

14. blah blah lemons, blah whinge, blah blah blah whine, complaint, wet blanket.

you could easily have started your own thread on which to grandstand rather than try to hijack this awesome thread, it's feelings and it's positive message of hope.

24. I couldnt be happier that WE passed this law. Yes I supported and voted for it. It is a joyous

occasion for many and I am tickled to death. But the reality is that we still have a lot of work to do. I have some very close friends that still seek to overcome the burden of DOMA.

29. Yeah, we know that.

Can you now allow people to feel good for just a little bit about what has been accomplished, or is that too much to ask?

33. I think your vilification is misplaced. I absolutely support this issue and in fact

made phone calls and voted for it. I celebrated when it passed and I appreciate your OP. This issue affects me very closely and that is why I am asking people to continue the push to repeal DOMA. I have close friends that are in a domestic partnership and they choose not to dissolve the partnership and get married but to let the partnership convert to marriage. Although this law is a major step it doesnt help them a lot. The IRS is restricted by DOMA as is the employer of one of the partners. We may have won a battle but the war rages on. Now is the time to contact Congress-criters to get DOMA repealed. If the SCOTUS supports DOMA it may be more difficult to over-turn.

I am sorry if anything I said gave the appearance that I wasnt happy about the passage of this bill.

As I said in another thread, we just had to drive by City Hall and see all the happy couples and families. It was a thing of joy.

8. Our daughter lives in Washington State. A pretty lovely place, if you ask me!

And they've managed to hold that GOP jerk dino rossi at bay for years now. Wondering if he isn't like the perennial presidential nominee wannabes rand paul or harold stassen - repeatedly running for office. Never quite making it.

And on edit - congratulations on a WONDERFUL accomplishment! You're part of the forward movement, for sure!

13. Yes I have only been in a pastoral staff position

for couple of years and there is a senior pastor who usually does all the weddings. He did one today and had me do the other.
