3. The military industrial complex

must have it's due. When I was I child, I thought the idea of paying rulers part of your income was a strange notion since I was told I lived in a democracy. Then I grew up.

Trudeau seems to be skirting close to the border of 911 Truther territory.

8. Huh?

'Doonesbury' in reruns when author takes vacation

The features editors answer: When "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau -- and all cartoonists -- go on vacation, the syndicates send reruns for newspapers to use. We don't print an explanation as it is a temporary and usually short-lived situation.

What is so fascinating?

10. Can you clarify?

Because you seem to have misunderstood mine.

I wrote that they are running re-runs of Doonesbury.

I am not understanding what it was about that statement you found fascinating.

The syndicates send in re-reruns rather than original cartoons when the cartoonist is taking a break or goes on vacation.

14. Seriously, I have no idea what you are trying to say

Last edited Sat Dec 8, 2012, 09:16 PM - Edit history (1)

They - the syndicates - are running re-runs of Doonesbury because the cartoonist is on vacation.

What are you saying this means?

20. I am completely mystified as to what your point might be

"They" is in reference to the syndicates who send out Doonesbury to various newspaper and such.

They are running re-runs now, so this is a previously published cartoon.

I really am not getting whatever your meaning is here.

24. It never occured to me to post a link

I just had noticed that the recent Doonesbury cartoons have been old ones so I knew that they were running re-runs and this wasn't a new cartoon. I just wanted to point that out - this isn't a new/current commentary from Trudeau, but rather a cartoon that had been done previously.

Look, can you just tell me what you thought was significant about the use of the word they? I sincerely am curious and do not understand. You can PM me about it if you want.

23. Comic strip syndication

A comic strip syndicate functions as an agent for cartoonists and comic strip creators, placing the cartoons and strips in as many newspapers as possible on behalf of the artist. In some cases, the work will be owned by the syndicate as opposed to the creator. A syndicate can annually receive thousands of submissions from which only two or three might be selected for representation. The leading strip syndicates include Creators Syndicate, King Features Syndicate, NI Syndication, United Media and the Washington Post Writers Group.

12. American foreign policy has been devoted to inventing bogeymen and fear.

A good way to get people to vote for you is to make them afraid and then tell them that you can lead them to safety.

17. I used to think that, too. But slowly I believe we have been herded into the Empire Stage...

with We're Number One. Perhaps get them before they get us...on a global scale...is a form of fear, King of the Hill, or perhaps a form of Exceptionalism when a nation/culture fears the entire world.
