Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

This photo got a woman suspended from Facebook. I think it's hilarious,

Facebook thinks it's pornographic, apparently. (Not that Facebook thinks . . . . )

I'm tired of all the in-your-face lactation nonsense. Next up, pictures of people peeing everywhere, I'm sure - that's natural too. It's about as tasteful and welcome as FB Limbaugh fan pics with "clever" sayings posted by teabaggers.

I was expecting it would be a baby who'd gotten distracted by something and was playing the Amazing Bungee Breast. My daughter often would turn to look at something without unlatching, which wasn't actually painful, but sure looked odd.

9. I fail to understand being offended by breastfeeding in this country.

If we hadn't sexualized women's breast so much, no one would care. Frankly, I know I don't care.

We're an odd society, that's for sure. Hide the nurturing and feeding of a child, because we have made breast too sexual to be seen. Yet we have a society where breast are blown up like balloons artificially to be ogled by the masses. How odd is that?

66. I see more boobage on my neighbor's teen daughter

than I have ever shown when nursing in public. You are right - the breast has become so sexualized that people can't stop equate any breast action with porn. Frankly, I think there is something wrong with anyone who has even a remote thought that nursing a baby is something sexual. That's sick.

I have failed to find any evidence of people dying at the sight of a breast. Breastfeeding is a normal way to feed a child. Nothing more. Nothing less. People really need to find other things to be offended about.

Mammary Glands by Kristin Lems

Mammary glands - wo wo!

It's a multimillion dollar enterprise

at least.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says every baby should be breastfed till age 1 -- AND as long after that as the mother and child wish.

I lot of people are uninformed about these recommendations, but have no problem with 2 year olds and 10 year olds and even adults drinking milk that came from the mammaries of cows.

67. Worldwide weaning average

The average age of weaning around the world is 4. Nursing a toddler is very normal and highly recommended. It's only in very recent Western (mainly American) history that we have forgotten that it's normal to nurse past one year.

I actually know who this child is and she is not even two years old.

44. Let's ask the Italian Renaissance painters about Baby Jesus

With one click of google I found lots of Virgin Marys with one breast exposed to an adoring infant Jesus. Baby Jesus suckling, baby Jesus fondling mommy, baby Jesus adoring his mommy, baby Jesus turning his head to look at something else leaving the nipple exposed.

As a mother of two, I experienced all of this myself, even though I kept a light blanket over the business in public. Mary was a woman who gave birth to a baby -- to the Italian Renaissance artists, this was part of religious experience made manifest in earthly life -- and art they installed in churches.

We are one screwed-up nation. Actresses and models can let their surgically- enhanced boobs hang out all over the place, but Gods forbid a mother with a nursing infant show anything at all. Gods forbid a mother show that she enjoys this act of love in a photo.

with a side of bacon?

Facebook is run by a bunch of sexually immature boys. Apparently.

I wish this banned pic was an unusual situation, but, sadly it's an everyday occurance and hundreds of beautiful Breastfeeding pictures have been censored.

Some people think sharing our beautiful sweet nurslings is meant to be provocative. It says volumes about the complainers, in my opinion... "immature" is just a start.

55. My exclusively breastfed baby did the same thing

when I sat down, with her on my lap, for dinner -- after she finished nursing she grabbed a handful of rice off my plate and helped herself.

You're right -- they're all different. And they tend to know what they're ready for, and when.

61. Cute pic!

And funny story to go with it! I breastfed 4 kids and had this kind of thing happen also. I also remember telling them to choose, LOL, but don't remember WHAT they chose. Too long ago I guess...

I'll just ignore the rest of the crap, on FB and in this thread. Makes me sad for society that those attitudes still exist.

63. Back when I was a young mom, there was no one around

with a camera (or cell phone) every time something funny happened.

I do remember the first time my fully breast-fed first baby helped herself to some rice off my plate. But she never, as I recall, tried to stuff rice and a nipple into her mouth at the same time!

83. Well, some people are exhibitionists. That's not always appreciated by non-exhibitionists.

There are rules for everything. You can show breastfeeding without showing a nipple. In fact, if you are showing breastfeeding, it would not be possible to show a nipple, as in that picture. But a tit shot....that usu. involves nipples.

84. And some people are Puritans. That picture showed no nipple,

unlike this several hundred year old Italian painting, Mandonna with the Infant Christ and St. John the Baptist, by Beccafumi Domenico.

87. No, but you're imagining things

if you think there's a nipple in that photo.

If you're not sure what one looks like, take a look at the painting.

75. We must protect children from seeing nipples!

We should blindfold children who are actually breastfeeding!

81. The World Health Organization recommends that toddlers nurse till two --

and beyond, if the mother so chooses.

The American Academy of Pediatricians recommends breastfeeding (plus solids) till at least age one, and beyond, if the mother so chooses.

That "kid" doesn't look much older than one to me.

What's your problem?

88. I was kinda thinking the same thing.

A kid that's old enough to eat bacon probably should be weaned. I'll huddle in the trenches with you if we're going to get firebombed over our opinion.
