Newark Mayor Cory Booker thinks Gov. Chris Christie is "vulnerable" next year in his re-election bid.
In an interview with CNNs Piers Morgan, Booker was asked if he could beat the popular Republican governor should he decide to run next year.
"Look I think hes vulnerable. I think hes vulnerable to any Democrat," Booker said. "His high mark right now, head to head with me, he polls at 53 percent."
Booker was referring to a recently released Quinnipiac poll that gave Christie 53 percent of the vote in a match-up with the mayor. Booker only got 35 percent of the vote in the same poll.

(11,464 posts)he would easily win
Running vs. Christie will not be easy after Hurricane Sandy
ESPECIALLY if the Jersey shore is open for business in Summer 2013.
Just don't see it being possible.
However, Senator is 100% doable and I don't think he would have any competition whatsoever vs. any republican they can think of in NJ. NONE.
And as Lautenberg has not indicated that he is running again, (though I would vote for him again), but if he doesn't run, the job is Cory's.

I agree that losing to Christie is not a good move.

(966 posts)What goes up, must come down....but I think if the rebuilding process goes well over this next year, beating him in the Governorship would be hard. Cory Booker would be great in the Senate.

(11,464 posts)not that I want to help their side but just in general
he has nothing to gain from being reelected and everything to lose
I think he could be Jeb's VP in 2016

Considered being a one term governor, like his former idol, the Myth....however, it's a long gamble because if he loses his bid for president, he doesn't have an office or position to fall back into. That was one of the reasons why he was hesitant about consideration as Mitt's VP. He would have had to step down as governor and been a man without an office with a loss.
I still don't think his national numbers are high enough for him to feel confident about that move. He is obviously banking on his Hurricane Sandy response to raise his profile but I think it will wind being akin to GUiliani and 9/11, one feel good moment does NOT erase a so so record.

(11,464 posts)a brand new already 100% paid for by the federal government, new tunnel from NJ into NY
to get more people to commute by train instead of by car
It was paid for
It would have created thousands of jobs
It would have brought in millions over the years
and because he was trying to appease the tea party he refused it
After Sandy, boy could NY/NJ use it
but the public is falling in love with him, it's pretty funny (if it weren't sad).
in a presidential, he wouldn't win NY/NJ or PA so I don't see where he has a national base anyhow.
I do admit though he is a character.

I agree with you on the tunnel as one of his greatest hits. Let's not forget that he has also SPENT hundreds of thousands of state money trying to fight paying that money NJ received from the federal government for the tunnel BACK.
His treatment of state unions?
His role in trying to break the police union in Camden and replace them?
What about his support for Xanadu (Meadowlands PRIVATE project) which STILL has not opened despite his support & wasted state funding?
His mishandling of the foreclosure relief program in the state (which choose to break from the Obama program yet do WORSE)?
Let's talk about his brother, the brother's connection to the Myth and why it will probably be an issue for him running as president.
So many things that people outside of NY/NJ/PA won't know. But if these three states wouldn't support him, how can he expect to get support from other states?

(9,874 posts)I think Booker has a bright future and don't want to see him risk it by running for the dead end job that gov of NJ always winds up as.

(2,921 posts)after being in New York for almost a week - just amazed on how much crap is still left over from Sandy.
Christie is endangered, and he did screw a few residents during the hurricane.
Nope, I think Christie will be thrown out and put in another democrat in its place, and if it has to be Booker, then so be it. We just gotta make sure that Booker doesn't screw education from them too.
