It was taken on October 12 on the South Lawn of the White House. It was funny because the way he told the story, he and Gibbs were kind of secretive about it when the President got behind the wheel, and how the Secret Service did NOT, under ANY circumstances, want him to leave the South Lawn!

There's a bigger picture of it in another thread, and you can see on the dashboard that it's registering 250 mpg!

Imagine what was going through his head when that picture was taken. A year of campaigning leading up to that moment, and after governing this nation for 4 years, through good times and bad, finding out that he will go down in the history books as a two-term President!

Pete Souza usually uploads new photos about twice a month on that Flickr photostream in the link at the top. I love seeing the President behind the scenes!

And that picture of the President on the phone with Mitt is historic. I actually heard somewhere that on election night, when Mitt realized it was over, his personal assistant called President Obama's personal assistant Marvin Nicholson and they both put the two men on the phone. I would have loved to hear what they said to each other!
