13. I am not gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender

None of the above. And, before I came to DU, I couldn't have cared less about these people's rights. Not that I fought against them; I just didn't care, one way or another. For the most part, it was because I didn't see that they had any less rights than any of the rest of us. It was here, on DU, that I found out that that wasn't true.

And, it was here that my heart was touched, and I realized that, although different from me, lgbt human beings are the same. They want to love and be loved; have a family, a home, children, jobs, a marriage, security. And, when we allow them to be deprived of those things, those basic rights, we pave the way for those rights to be taken from any of us, and all of us.

Congrats to the newly wedded. I am so happy for them. And, for the rest of us.

23. Thank you!

That has to be one of the nicest things I've ever heard anyone say.
Just the recognition that we need the same things that everyone needs.
And, that you care! That simple fact may seem trivial to some, but it isn't trivial at all.
Leastwise not to me! Not to some kid who may be at the end of his rope.
Just knowing that people can move from indifference to caring and concern
gives me real hope. I mean that truly. I found your words to be very touching.

64. You're welcome, Science Geek.

It's hard to look at the pictures and not understand, isn't it? This isn't the first set of wedding pictures from lgbt nuptials I've looked at, and they ALWAYS touch my heart. We really lose a lot as people, and as a society, when we discriminate against those who are not like "normals." (No such thing as "normal," but you know what I mean.) Because life, in all forms, is so rich simply because of all of the differences between us. Such a pity that we don't celebrate them.

93. Same here

but my critical thinking skills and the experience of having lived through the 60's allowed me to quickly correlate the current anti-gay crusade with the campaign against rights for blacks 2 generations ago. conservatives always find targets for PC hatred to bring their faithful to the polls.

"32 years"- how can anyone in their right mind not consider this a married couple? I have been with my wife 20 years, married for 18 of that. Those ladies have me beat by 14. How can anyone in their right mind say it isn't a committed relationship?

I am at once incredibly happy that they can now express their love for each other as I have always been able to...

and incredibly angry that that right has been withheld from them for so long.

But on this joyful day I will choose to revel in the former and commit myself to working toward a world where the latter no longer exists for anyone in any state.

Thank you again.

Amazing, really, in so many instances the similarity in looks. So similar they looked related to each other. But all of these couples looked like they really belonged together. Most of all, they looked so happy.

Love and commitment are not evil things. Preventing love and commitment are evil things.

83. Some of those couples look as if they've been waiting a long time

A couple of Sundays ago, when we had our usual blessings for birthdays, anniversaries, and those about to travel, one of the gay couples who attend our church came forward. Although same-sex marriage is not legal in Minnesota, those two men had been together for forty years. I hope they can live long enough to have a state-recognized marriage here.

84. That little boy with the camera just kills me!

He's so happy! The little one's are naturally tolerant, you have to be "carefully taught" to hate.

86. Love the two guys in the beards.

But notice how many of the first half look the same as each other? Not implying anything, just pointing it out. Struck me as unusual.

More power to them! So sorry some of them had to wait this long. And that's assuming it stays legal.

87. Just remember, we had to fight Obama on this, of course

he did come around.

We still got to push him on a host of other issues too - like getting back to a 94% tax on the rich and increasing capital gains, etc.....

"Obama told MTV he believes marriage is "between a man and a woman" and that he is "not in favor of gay marriage."

"I’ve stated my opposition to this. I think it’s unnecessary," Obama told MTV. "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage."

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2008/11/obama-on-mtv-i/

We've got to push him, and push harder than the R's are pushing in the other direction.

92. Two questions on this

1. Did he "come around", or feel like he needed your votes?
2. Why does he pay any attention at all to what the R's say/want?

94. My take is that he's a straight up corporatist opportunist, but will bend to the will

of the people if he's pushed hard enough.

1. Needed votes.

2. He's not really on our side.

89. I so hope that this happiness can be shared nationwide someday.

Congratulations to all the happy couples. Perhaps someday my mom and her partner and my uncle and his partner can join them.

Here's hoping this becomes the law of the land in all 50 states.

91. Is it wrong to hate those who fight against these peoples' happiness

(not to mention their equality)?

A big FU to Fox News, hate Radio, and everyone who pays attention to them.
