Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

And now, the other shoe about the DeMint resignation, he's pushing Tim Scott as his replacement.

Tim Scott won his seat in the House in 2010. He's as teabaggy as they come.

Think Allen West without the name recognition.

And the big push to get Halley to appoint him? He would be the only African American in the Senate, and he would be appointed by an Indian American from a state in the deep south.

2. Yeah, I didn't want to rain on anybody's parade

But it's already hitting news sites that Tim Scott is DeMint's preferred replacement.

8. He would only be in for a brief time and then

an election would have to be held for the seat, right?

9. He'd have to stand for election in 2014

There will be two Senate elections in SC come 2014 because Graham is up for re-election then, too.

12. Just put a generic white male - and the SC folks will go over them en-masse if Tim Scott is still

there.

4. There will be two SC Senate races in 2014.

One for DeMint's seat and the other is Lindsay Graham.

Hopefully both GOP primaries will be bloody, brutal affairs.

5. We could pick up 2 seats. Colbert and his large family are from SC

We need 2 major names to run against them

2014 could be a suprise after all if we lucky, as all the media was saying the repubs would have it easier than dems

(long as its not the ahole that was Kerry's vp choice)

Just a nitpick.

24. Doubt he'd give up his lucrative job and his podium...but, hey...stranger things

have happened. I just don't think it would work for him, though. Once you escape SC and trash the GOOD OLE BOYS...you ain't ever going to be accepted back by the "Powers that Be" who have good claws into our US GOVT.

Remember they still supply our WARS with willing and able bodied young Women and Men.

7. Figured this would happen... DeMint was bad enough...

But, it's the way SC works. Hopefully SC Dems can find a better candidate to run since there will be an election in 2014.

11. SC Dems need TWO good Senate candidates in 2014

Graham is up for re-election and this seat will have a special election.

16. Dem Party is weak there in SC...it's going to be hard..there was the

Dem Party manager ...Dick Harpootlian (do I have spelling wrong?) who seemed to be a good manager but he couldn't get much traction in getting STRONG/VOCAL Dems to go against the "Management."

Whatever...I won't go into more...because you probably know more than I do about SC Politics than I do...but I'm Charleston and read that RAG the Post & Courier..for the weak news they give since bought out by the NYT's.

17. Also...for awhile the Greenville (upstate) got the goods with the Car Imports Manufacturing..

Charleston has the Ports and the Old Boy Civil War Network ... But the Manufacturing in the North of the State was taking over the "Good Ole Boys."

THEN...Charleston got Boeing and they have the Development of their "outer islands" like Kiawah, Johns Island, etc. and BOOM is ON AGAIN to try to ensnare the Boomer Retirees that "the think" are going to DEVELOP ...after the Housing Bust and BOOMERS HAVE NO MONEY!

It's incredible what goes on down there. As I stated...I grew up there...plus, I still have relatives there so I watch it closely. It's like watching a "Crash Cart"..imho because they don't believe in Global Warming where the outer islands are in jeopardy and they don't know with the Nuclear and else they are digging themselves into environmental peril on both fronts....and I often wonder (sad as it is as to how much I love the flora and fauna of the place) that I will cry when it's gone...but, I blame the very same "Ole Boy Network" for doing it.

Hell Yeah...they will probably move to St. Kitts and live awhile longer in splendor or maybe some South American Country Inland where they, their children, grandchildren will create a NEW INLAND EMPIRE of EXILES from South Carolina!

21. Weak? It is non-existent.

There was a Dem Rep that chaired the budget committee in the House until the 2010 wipeout.

John Spratt.

Good man, smart, and unelectable on a statewide basis.

22. What did you think of Dick Harpootlian...and what about his replacement....

I don't even know who replaced him...but, from reading afar from SC...Dick seemed to at least TRY to be a Good Dem Chair in SC...but the winds were against him during the Housing Boom ...

10. Time for Rep. Clyburn to move up to the Senate!

He's the only high-profile person from SC that I can think of, other than Stephen Colbert.

23. Probably some genetic thing... "THE SCOTS WILL RISE AGAIN!"

Some crass posters on DU will say it's some kind of "Old White Guy Revenge" or something. You know how DU goes.

I don't understand why you singled it out though as "SCOTT."
