Hundreds of same-sex couples line up for midnight marriage licenses

Hundreds of couples were lined up outside the King County administration building in downtown Seattle Wednesday night waiting for the 12:01 a.m. beginning to Washington's same-sex marriage law.

Starting just after midnight, groups of 10 couples will be admitted to the building to obtain licenses. The state's three-day waiting period expires Sunday, after which weddings can officially take place. Many ceremonies are already planned to take place at Seattle City Hall, and some King County judges were volunteering to work that day to help with the rush.

Amanda Dollente and Kelly Middleton showed up around 4 p.m. Wednesday to claim a spot in line. But they aren't rushing to marry on Sunday. Instead, they said, they plan to wed at noon on Dec. 12 ... 12-12-12 at 12 p.m.

The county administration building is scheduled to be open all night and through Thursday to serve the many couples seeking licenses.

Congratulations Washington!

I heard someone from the county being interviewed and they were positively giddy talking about setting up for 'the party'. Not often you hear a county bureaucrat so exuberant!
