Republicans will impeach Obama over the Debt Ceiling

1) They will refuse to raise the Debt Ceiling in the House. Utterly Refuse, no matter what.
2) Obama will have to invoke the 14th amendment option to keep us from defaulting.
3) Republicans, (possibly with an assist from the Supreme Court,e.g. if Obama's order is challenged directly), will impeach Obama on Executive overreach.
4) He'll be acquitted in the Senate.

1. It's getting to be a trite tradition for a republican House to impeach a democratic President

during his second term in office.

(Please excuse the alliteration.)

2. And the people, even those who pay little attention,

will notice. They will say, "Wut, AGAIN?"

Obama will emerge more popular than a rock star. We will elect another Democrat in 2016.

6. It takes a Clinton to beat a Bush. Hillary45 2016, either way.

But why would you wish the time to be wasted on this?

11. I don't wish the time to be wasted.

I was merely responding to the post with what I think would happen.

5. unless you have any greedy egotistical dems that want to leave their position

at which point it will be closer, and in 2014 midterm, repubs have it easier than dems

dem senators should be remained in their positions for the next 4 years

7. Proceed, Mr. Speaker.

The 2014 midterms will be a rout if this happens.

8. Ugh, I hope not

In theory, part of me says "let's see them try." As unjustified as the impeachment of Clinton was, impeaching Obama for keeping the country from default because they were derilect in their duty to raise the debt ceiling would be twice as egregious, and I would like to think it would backfire. But they are so good at controlling the spin machine that I am afraid it wouldn't play out that way.

9. if they bypass the debt ceiling, i would expect the treasury secretary to act unilaterally.

they can scream for the treasury secretary to be fired and perhaps that might happen.
but there's no need for obama to risk the presidency when an underling can be positioned to take the fall.

10. He has the Platinum Coin option

31 USC § 5112 Denominations, specifications, and design of coins.

<snip>

(k) The Secretary may mint and issue platinum bullion coins and proof platinum coins in accordance with such specifications, designs, varieties, quantities, denominations, and inscriptions as the Secretary, in the Secretary’s discretion, may prescribe from time to time.

So the Treasury Secretary orders several platinum coins minted in $1 trillion denominations, then deposits them in the Federal Reserve.
