Kansas to pay $350,000 to settle lawsuit against former prosecutor Kline

TOPEKA Kansas officials have agreed to have the state pay $350,000 to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit against former state Attorney General Phill Kline.

Gov. Sam Brownback and top legislative leaders approved the settlement Wednesday. The money will go to Jacqie Spradling, a former senior prosecutor in Johnson County.

“This is a final settlement that will allow the parties to put the matter behind them,” said Joseph Colantuono, Spradling’s attorney.

Kline, a Republican, was Johnson County district attorney when he dismissed Spradling in 2007, citing insubordination and a poor attitude.

Spradling spoke out after she was fired. OMG. Kline was never in his office, didn't even live in the county, as state law requires. She told of a parole hearing for a convicted murderer (high profile case) and no one from the prosecutor's office was available to testify against paroling the killer. They were playing golf.

Spradling was the only one in the prosecutor's office with specialized training to work with domestic violence victims. Her training was so specialized she trained other prosecutors in other KS counties. And Kline fired her.

The man is a monster. He needs to pay up to reimburse the taxpayers and STAY AWAY from Kansas. He's now teaching at Liberty University in VA. Sorry, VA, but you can keep him. We don't want him back.
