#t=107sFrom Teacher Sabrina:
On November 30, 2012, I had the rare and deeply disturbing experience of witnessing part of the American Legislative Exchange Councils Education Task Force meeting: a closed-door policy-shaping session open only to the state legislators who help to pass them, the corporate lobbyists who pay big money to shape and sponsor them and scrappy activists like me, who are no longer willing to cede our policy-making processes to unaccountable, undemocratic organizations who hide from the people their decisions ultimately affect. Heres me speaking from my heart as a teacher driven from the classroom into activism by destructive policies like theirs. Ill have more words and information soon.

(46,699 posts)ALEC people were dressed in black. The women on the board were funeralistic-looking. And the way they got up and ran around like an ant hill that was disturbed, well that was priceless.

(53,764 posts)I'm so glad to see ALEC is getting exposed. That group is behind writing SB 1070, the anti-immigrant, show-your-papers law, in Arizona. They also have their hand in CCA (Corrections Corporation of America), that envisioned SB 1070 filling their for-profit jails and thus, their coffers. They write many of the regressive, anti-people bills that are getting passed in statehouses nowadays, as wittnessed by this video. They then let some willingly complicit, right wing legislator put their name on it and take credit for writing it, a la Russell Pearce in AZ and SB 1070. I'm guessing they even had a huge hand in writing Lyin' Paul Ryan's budget who was exposed as a lightweight by election campaign, and specifically by VP Joe Biden who wiped the floor with him in the VP debate. After his poor performance in the debate and during the campaign where couldn't even explain any specifics about his alleged plan, how are we expected to believe he wrote this much-ballyhooed budget plan? I say, "Go activists", keep exposing these behind-the-scenes, unelected right wingers who are trying to usurp the power of representative system of government.

(20,729 posts)of alec legislators at the state level. it seems to me that the action is moving toward states, in order to wring as many concessions out of states while they are struggling to finance government.

(20,453 posts)After all, education, like the gas and oil industry, should address the educator's goals, which are anything but ALEC'S.
