Can someone explain something to me

Why is it when Bush was President dems were told to cave to Bush and stop obstructing what he wants. When Dems win we are told that we have to cave to Republicans on everything because they won the House. How can this be? I do not get when do Republicans have to cave to dems?

They're pretty far right, but I believe we're supposed to say they're 'center left' here on DU

They aren't 'caving' necessarily, just following their agenda. Which happens not to differ too much from the GOP
