Here’s a restaurant owner who will try to make Obamacare work

Restaurant owners are spitting mad about what implementing Obamacare will do to their already thin margins.

One Denny's franchisee threatened a 5 percent surcharge on meals and suggested that customers could tip less. An Applebee's franchisee threatened to cut worker hours. Papa John's founder, John Schnatter, threatened to raise the cost of a pizza by as much as 14 cents.

So perhaps it is newsworthy then that one restaurant owner is simply going to try to make Obamacare work.

The Nebraska owner of 18 Jimmy John's franchises said he's going to figure out how to give his employees health care.

1. If he is expecting a medal for complying with the law, don't look for one

He could have saved for 3 years prior to the implementation, but perhaps gambled on the Supreme Court of President Ramney repealing the law.

And truth be told, I don't mind paying another 10 cents for a sandwich if it means the employees making that sandwich will now have health care.

5. All of these business owners who are trying to get out of their H.C. responsibility should ...

come out as strong supporters of Medicare for all.

It is absolutely ridiculous to have a H.C. system that is tied into employment. WTF? What kind of sense does that make? Absolutely none. The only reason we have that system is an accident of history. Following WWII, there were wage controls, and big employers used "fringe benefits" to attract workers. And 60 years later we are still living with that stupidity.

I am very sympathetic with restaurant owners and other small businesses. It is hard work and a lot of risk to keep a small business running. The last thing a small business owner needs is to become a H.C> expert and to take time away from his business negotiating and administering health insurance for his employees.

A universal H.C. program would be very good for small business.

Now the aholes like the Denny's guy of the Pizza franchise guy are just trying to cheat employees. That's a different story. They should rot in hell. But there are a lot of business owners who would be a lot better off if we had health care for all -- NOT tied to employment.

10. It does make you wonder

exactly WHY businesses are so adamantly against a Medicare-for-all system.

I have been confused by this too.

12. Mindless Republican dogma

95% of the people who vote Republican are voting completely against their own self-interests.

13. Not all businesses

I'd LOVE nationalized health care. I looked into what it'd cost for health insurance if I were to hire employees, and nearly choked when I heard the quote. It'd be way awesome to not have to worry about that.

14. It would help you, it would help the huge corporations,

it would help small and medium sized corporations.

So it just makes no sense that so many companies are so opposed to this.

Imagine it---the companies no longer have to play the game of looking for the best coverage for the best price every freaking year. And they don't have to worry about rates that go up so high in a year, to the point that making a budget is impossible. Why would they be opposed????

Do you really want someone who has a disease that can be communicated through your food handling your food?

I don't.
