3. My thoughts exactly, although that guy in Rosa's seat shows the change.

Still so happy about the election here.

6. The President is sitting in the seat behind Rosa.

I wonder if that was an intentional decision, and what the thoughts were behind that choice.

8. That stood out to me as well

I have to think that it was intentional. I can see how it would be perceived as almost blasphemous to sit in her seat - diminishing her accomplishment by occupying her rightful place. Perhaps he also did not want to send the message that we have achieved a truly egalitarian society, which is what an image of him in her seat might have been interpreted as by some. By occupying the seat behind hers, he seems to be saying that we still have more to achieve.

11. While I certainly don't disagree that we still have more to achieve

I agree more with your first comment that the front seat belongs to Ms. Parks. In a sense, he was showing that he knows and respects that his achievements may not of have been possible without her (and other leaders of the Civil Rights movement) saying "enough is enough".

Talk about a picture speaking a thousand, no ten thousand words.

9. Good to see that our activism in the 60's matters today in many ways.

Obama as president certainly is a signature moment in the changes fought for decades ago.

10. Rush or Hannity would really get off

on telling him to get in the back. I bet they'd trade their 7 figure paychecks for the pleasure of being legally able to feel racially superior to the untermenschen in back.

This is what those deranged fucks mean when they want to return us to the good old days.

Man, did the Prez nail the symbolism with that photo. Beautiful.

What an incredible weight he bears. It does seem he is up to the task.
