4. An amazing thing happens when a company respects its employees...

Employees feel the pride & obligation to go above & beyond for their employers.

10. CostCo has an annual membership fee of $55, that boosts their profits.

But it certainly makes for customer loyalty.

17. It is well worth it.

We bought our tv there because of their fantastic return policy, even more than the price. Appliances from small electrics to major ones are available.

My husband is hard to shop for, and hates shopping himself. I can confidently bring home new slacks and shirts in different colors and sometimes different sizes, knowing I can return any or all of it after he has tried things on. (There's no dressing room, so you have to do a bit of that anyway.)

I was concerned that our town was getting a "big box store" when Costco came in 1999, but the thing that sold me on it was reading up on their company policies regarding their employees. It doesn't get much better than this: good prices, good quality, no questions asked return policy, and good treatment of employees.

20. Actually all of their profit is from the membership fees; they sell stuff at a slight loss

They also stock about 40% of the SKU's per store that a WalMart does, which puts a much lower labor cost footprint on their shelf price.

22. The comparison is to Sam's Club, which effectively operates the same as Costco

Membership fee, limited product selection, little to no profit on most products, etc.

8. I will never shop there...

loot maybe, in an emergency end of the world crisis. Which, if we are all still here after Dec 21st, and the fiscal cliffy thingy in January, the end of the world won't happen for at least four more years (don't you just love the sound of that?), and that will suit me just fine.

Forgive me, it seems a little unclear.

We don't go to West Omaha much or we would be buying there too. Wal-mart is just down the street, and we never go there.

24. I am in a similar situation. Closest store is almost 19 miles. And the driving in this part

of the country is a lot more congested than the midwest. But it may be worth the effort. Perhaps after the holidays when traffic eases a bit.

26. Same here....

but we may, if rumours are correct, be getting one in the new shopping plaza they are trrying to build about 5 minutes from me in late 2013. But, who knows if the project will ever get off the ground. It has been in the works since 2007 in various forms.

I don't even know where there is one! They are still pretty few and far between!

16. For whatever reason, companies would rather pay low wages than reduce turnover

They all think they are saving money by doing this.

They look at labor as an expense, not an investment. They view it cutting into the bottom line because it's viewed as a percentage of profit loss.

Retail and fast food are the biggest perpetrators of this. If sales are down, they will start forcing people off the clock early killing their paychecks. It also keeps pressure on keeping wages down. That's why retail and restaurants have such high turnover. And they really don't care because they feel as though they have an endless applicant flow. If you complain about your pay or your hours, they fire you and just hire the next person in their stack of applications.

Of course the CEO is raking in millions no matter what the sales are.

25. Wondering how their Senior Management/CEO pay compares. Often the Cheap Places are top heavy

and overpay the top tier.

27. Who would have guessed that treating your employees like

people rather than numbers on a spreadsheet would lead to a better business?

Retailers have padded the ceo's pockets at the expense of treating employees with dignity and respect. No wonder Costco does so well. Happy employees equal happy customers.

IF they do, it will eliminate lots of other locations we shop at. But not the mom & pops we go to like For the birds.

http://davidfeldmanshow.com/fighting-walmart/

David interviews William Fletcher, a spokesperson for OUR WALMART and Wal Mart employee who decided to strike instead of work on Black Friday. Most of the show is the interview.
