White House's "IRON STANCE: NO new Offers until GOP drops opposition to raising top tax rates"

The President will not change his offer - until the GOP tells Grover Norquist he has lost.

WSJ:

A senior administration official said the White House would make NO new offers until Republicans changed their opposition to raising top tax rates.

The WSJ tucks this bombshell at the end of the sixth graf of its cliff story today: “A senior administration official said the White House would make no new offers until Republicans changed their opposition to raising top tax rates.” Reminds us of the Civil War headline Playbook never tires of quoting: “IMPORTANT IF TRUE.” Turns out the support moratorium on bargaining is slightly overstated. But the White House – recognizing, as top Republicans do privately, that it holds most of the cards -- is maintaining an iron stance: “fair to say no deal gets done till Republicans move on rates for the wealthiest. ... The White House has learned it lessons from summer of 2011 and won't negotiate with itself. .... We won't punt. It’s not an option. President campaigned on this and won.”

4. Typical

"A senior administration official said the White House would make NO new offers until Republicans changed their opposition to raising top tax rates"

...WSJ. New offer?

The current offer is excellent. Republicans can "changed their opposition to raising top tax rates" by accepting the current offer.

10. I prefer to call it the "give em more paint" stance.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/11026372

The Republicans are now giving the Democrats the mantle of "party of middle class tax cuts".

If he were writing a script he couldn't ask the Republicans to take a stupider path.

Now he can just wait for the markets to beat up the Republicans all the way to Jan 2nd.

They have painted themselves into a corner and all they are doing is asking for more paint.

After the markets have lost 20% of their value the Republicans are going to be jumping to agree on the taxes and he can hold firm on the stimulus.

Someday these days will be remembered as the 'good ole days' when the Republicans just wrote themselves off the cliff of relevance.

19. Damned right. If my taxes go up Jan. 1, fine. So will Rush's.

He'll pay a lot more than me. And even more delicious, O'Reilly - who HATES paying taxes - will get hit, too.

I'm fired up and ready to jump.

22. and why would there be a new offer even then? It goes without sayng that taxes on the rich need to g

go back to normal rates. . Obama already offered to make cuts/concessions. I don't see a reason for another offer.
