Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

How long until homophobic heads explode when they realize the feds are going to have to . . . .

. . . . recognize at least some aspects of same sex marriage.

As people get married in the states that allow it, they get the right to file their taxes as married couples.

Ka-ching!

Hahahahahaha

And what happens when a married couple is in a state where they don't allow such marriages when a spouse is hospitalized while visiting? Can they deny the other spouse visitation? Decision making?

This genie is OUT.

I'm really glad.

2. We still need a SCOTUS decision

to void DOMA before married same-gender couples can file a joint Federal return. They already have the option of filing joint state returns in the places where equal marriage is the law.

I would imagine the same thing would be needed in the case of all other rights, DOMA needs to be found unconstitutional. We may already be at the point where that could happen. And watching Scalia's head explode would be the most fun of all, his dissent will be epic in the annals of hate masquerading as jurisprudence.
