MSNBC raises the possibility: cabinet post for Mitt?

Oh God. The talking head (didn't catch her name) wondered whether today's meeting was a precursor to a cabinet post for Romney in Obama's administration.

7. There has been a lot of media/pundit speculation, not all of it serious

Add CNN and these to the list, for just a few examples:

Cabinet role for Mitt Romney would be a shrewd move

like usual trying to see if we agree with it if they get a hint of it on the internet they will run away with it just like everything else. My opinion Romney lost he is a big damn liar,he can take his ass over to the Cayman island and never come back.

This is the same shit that the President went for with Judd Gregg which I also though was a bad idea at the time, he appointed asshole Gregg as commerce secretary and Gregg didn't like it because he couldn't do whatever he wanted to do and by the way Judd Gregg looks like the Grinch who stole Christmas..

30. Romney in Obama’s Cabinet? ‘No,’ says White House

With Obama under some pressure to name a Republican to his second-term Cabinet, will the president maybe, you know, consider finding a spot for the former Massachusetts governor?

"No, no," Carney said. What about inviting Romney to help with a possible reorganization of the Commerce Department? "The president does not have a specific assignment in mind for the governor," the press secretary said.

39. The Commerce Department...holy frijole...Special talents.. laundering money and gutting buinesses?

Or maybe it's a new cabinet position to bring in revenue ... Creative Overseas Funding Department. I know, that was the reporter, but these "rumors" often initiate in some form of reality...trial balloons...marketing surveys, etc. At least Obama won't be having a beer with him.

The only other think I can think of is that Mitt has promised a large contribution to Planned Parenthood or something.

to him as "the governor." He was an incompetent, unpopular governor for all of two minutes (at least in political time) of a blue state that he lost by over twenty friggin' points, ending more than six years ago. "Nonstop but losing presidential candidate" would be a better description.

31. This happens every time a Dem takes office...

it seems no matter what the media puts out there the President goes for it while I scream Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

When they were talking about closing Guantanomo I listened as the media went along with the repugs with Peter King,McCain and the rest of the gang tried to pretend it couldn't be done and that he couldn't put the terrorists with our regular prisoners.

When that little game was going on I kept saying so the terrorists are so bad that they must have superpowers and were far superior than all of the other prisoners in prisons all over America, and the media kept the republicons lies going again.

Also, I watched as they were afraid to have the trials for certain terrorists in New York but they(RepubliCONS) claim to be so tough, shouting USA,USA,USA, so what in the hell were they afraid of?

Now,I see the media talking about the President closing Guantanomo again but now all of a sudden the talking heads claim it can be done. They are full of shit!!!

And another thing, the police did act stupidly, when arresting the professor in his own house.

Although the Republicans held their noses and voted for him, they still have not learned the lesson they need to: mostly that their loss was not due to the messenger, but the message.

If Obama gave rMoney a job, it would just confirm the reich wing's opinion of him (moderate and unreliable).

The moderates are out of power, the whack jobs are still in and nothing will change them until they are out.

The bastard has an MBA and a JD. I would offer to never investigate him for financial malfeasance in exchange for him leading a team that will analyze every outstanding derivative for creditworthiness. He is one of the pioneers of using subprime-based derivatives to finance takeovers, and these derivatives broke the economy's back. Since Romney made the mess, have him clean it up.

...Mitt in unusually glowing terms when asked about a possible position for Romney in the Obama government and then followed up with "I don't have a read on that."

I thought that was a really strange way to approach the question, but maybe it's nothing. I couldn't tell either way.

51. LOL!: Over Lunch, Obama And Romney Pledge To "Stay In Touch"

IGOR BOBIC 3:18 PM EST, THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2012

President Obama hosted his former Republican challenger Mitt Romney for lunch that lasted over an hour at the White House on Thursday. The two men discussed the role of America's leadership in the world, pledging to keep in touch in the future. White turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad was served. Full readout from the White House:

This afternoon, President Obama and Governor Romney visited for an hour over lunch in the Private Dining Room adjacent to the Oval Office. Governor Romney congratulated the President for the success of his campaign and wished him well over the coming four years. The focus of their discussion was on America's leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future. They pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future. Their lunch menu included white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

54. The media loves to speculate about these things

But I really don't see it happening. Obama really doesn't like Romney personally (though maybe that changed after today, which was probably the first time they ever really had a conversation). Plus, Romney really was an outsider within the Republican party, so he doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of building bridges. If the president is going to appoint Republicans it makes more sense to appoint Republicans who have served in the House or Senate for a long time and might be able to push some of their former colleagues to support the president's agenda.
