First there was "planking" and "owling," now there's "milking."

I was just utterly dismayed at these pictures. Such waste. SMDH.

3. This one seems to have started as a protest.

Students being milked by society. Makes sense to me.

5. It makes me think of poor people who would gladly

take that gallon or half gallon of milk from being dumped over that person's head in "protest" and feed it to their families instead. :/

14. You've missed the point fully.

Part of any such protest is the symbolic act of conspicuous consumption which is lost if the milk is not wasted...milk the poor family cannot afford anyways due not to the efforts of the farmer (they're also getting fucked) but due to the actions of middlemen and takers.

4. Oh, those wacky kids!

Next thing you know, they'll be jamming themselves in phone booths while swallowing live goldfish. What is the world coming to? When will they make an end of such silly youthful behavior? That's what I want to know.

Actually, I thought this was going to be a sex thread. I'm so disappointed.

6. Snark aside, did you see my post above? This is waste of food, for

shock value. I think it's in quite poor taste.

7. I doubt that huge quanities of milk are

going to waste in this silliness. Truly. A sense of scale is very useful.

9. It's not the volume, it's the whole

pretext of "we have the privilege of not NEEDING this bottle of milk, so we'll just dump it over our heads." I still say it's insulting and thoughtless and flies in the face of people struggling with poverty and the ability to feed their families.

10. Yes, OK.

The scale still matters, though. If you want to make a point about food waste and its impact on hunger and poverty, there are far better examples than this prank activity. Truly there are. What you posted doesn't really make your point.

Try searching for milk dumping by dairies when prices go too low. There are many stories about massive food waste. Kids playing pranks don't waste enough food to make any difference to anyone.
