Kids killed by cluster bombs...no replies to the thread.

Man gets injured by a deer thread and folks are all over it.

Can't do much about either situation but interesting the take on things.

Fellow human injured? YAY. He had it coming because he tried to kill an animal for food/etc.

And I DON'T blame the deer, was talking about the responses here. Our consumption kills more animals in an hour than that guy will his entire life.

Just seems all around a sad state of affairs at times.

63. * headdesk *

No, you're absolutely right. Sadly, the human response is to take on the easy, almost trivial issue and not the truly heartbreaking reality. It's easy to pile on a hunter, but stand up against our own government's - our own party's - hand in genocide? Yeah.

Threads like these read like something you'd expect to find on one of those whack job PETA fansites.

"Why couldn't the deer have won! Yay murder! Depriving children of their father is so righteous because he dared participate in hunting!"

Some posters really need to check their priorities. If you place human life below animal life in terms of survival well....yeah.

I love my pets, but I'd not hesitate to defend myself if they attacked me.

Unless people have produced their own food and experienced killing something instead of buying on a nice little yellow styrofoam tray, they just aren't going to get it. Not the sadness in pulling the trigger, or the happiness of being able to provide for your family, or the importance of not wasting the meat harvested when you chose to end another life.

No, a pissed deer is no laughing matter. It's not a picnic to untangle a mostly undamaged one from a barbed wire fence, either. It's just a fact of life that we all fight for our lives, carnivore or herbivore, bottom or top of the food chain.

What about killing is fun? I get that hunting has its place. Herds must be thinned. Hunting for food is what humans and other animals have always done and hunting, when done right, is probably more humane than other ways to obtain meat. I get all that. I just can't understand how killing an animal can be sport or fun or anything but a horrible experience.
