Michigan Middle School Student Counters Bullying with Positive Post-Its on Lockers

Samantha Bremmer, a student at Mill Creek Middle School in Dexter, MI, is promoting anti-bullying among her classmates by sticking Post-Its with uplifting hand-written messages on their lockers, according to Dexter Patch.

Bremmer, who is in eighth grade, hopes her messages bring positive energy into the classroom. She spent her winter break personally – and at the end with some help from Ashley Sobczak so the project would get finished - writing 820 notes to post on each locker.

Bremmer told the Dexter Patch that she “just thought of it out of the blue after watching videos of so many people saying mean things to others.”

"Some people need encouragement to get through the day, and I thought it would be nice to leave a positive comment for everyone," she explained.

She endures bullying and teasing every day of the week at her high school due to her weight issues. It's so sad that kids are that mean. She went home crying again yesterday.

Dear ____,

Nobody deserves to be bullied.
None of this is your fault.
You are a good and sensitive person.
Those kids are acting like jerks.
Some of them may end up acting like jerks for the rest of their lives, and I pity them.
They will be pathetic losers.
A few of those kids may actually grow up and regret what they did.
Someone might come up to you at a future high school reunion and apologize.
The apology will come too late to do you any good now, but it might help a little.
It happened to me. All of it.

You will grow past this and grow up to be an empathetic person, someone who can understand
another person's pain. Maybe you will help others because of what you've learned.
Right now it doesn't seem as if this will ever stop, but it will.
Lots of love & good wishes to you.

A Former Victim.

I think everything you said is true.

It's such a shame that some people make the choice to be bullies instead of behaving like the girl in the OP. With bullying, everybody feels bad--the victim, their family, and even the bullies (though not necessarily right away... and if they're the kind of people who *never* grow up to feel bad about being bullies, they are in for a very, very cold and unpleasant life indeed). With kindness and love, everybody feels good, the person doing the loving most of all. If only more kids learned at a younger age that kindness feels so much better than meanness....

Your words of encouragement are so compassionate, and I join you in sending the love and good wishes. It just makes me ill to think of kids, still so tender and vulnerable, having to endure being bullied and teased.
