Half a Billion for Drones to Spy on US? WE should tell politicians where the $$ cuts will be made

U.S. Customs and Border Protection last month received its latest unmanned aircraft, but it's a new sole-source contract that could approach a half-billion dollars that offers the latest insight into the agency's vision for its controversial eyes-in-the-sky drone program.

The border agency has locked in a five-year deal with a San Diego-area aeronautical company estimated to be worth as much as $443 million, according to a document posted Nov. 1 on the federal government contracting opportunities website. An estimated $237 million of that would buy up to 14 drones and related equipment.

http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/state&id=8891162

Last February Congress pass legislation to put 20,000 new drones in the air to spy on us, at what cost I have no idea.(taking too long to load)

Why does everyone just accept that we must pay for the atrocious Homeland Security slush fund which violates our Constitution.

Homeland Security(note Nazi reference) and the TSA are disgusting abuses of power started by Bush.

Why must Democrats continue this nonsense?

Right Wingers like to go on and on about defending the Constitution when it comes to Obamacare,

why can't we get them to join forces and gut the funding to the Homeland Security Slush Fund?

They like to go on and on about Food Stamps....80 Billion per year.

I think we could easily cut 80 billion from Homeland Security and be happier people because of it.

1. Will these drones be armed or just camera equipped?

I'M big time anti-drone, but curious if they will be armed?

4. We won this election on the internet- they damn well better listen to US

WE now have more power that the corrupt corporate media...and we have the power to ruin them with social media if we have to.

So c'mon you hypocritical sociopaths with your cuts to social security.... bring it on... the reaction will overwhelming....

But since we do need to pay down the debt, and we know we are much smarter than a US Congressman...it should be the American people that come up with a list of acceptable cuts to the budget.

I can think of a few more like the Drug War, military stationed all over the world...

We should try to preempt them with a useful list of our own so they don't embarrass themselves with their idiocy again.

11. I know it's a load of crap, but we have to use their load of crap against them

I don't want to leave a pile of debt for the future just because we didn't hold these assholes accountable.

They can get us out of debt the same way they got us into debt, by cutting the military spending, the homeland security spending and the locking up drug offenders at $50,000 per year because they might harm themselves.

Then they can tax the overall wealth 90% of anyone who has doubled their wealth in the last 12 years, profiting off of the government gravy train during the war on terror. That should fix the debt real quick.

26. Hey, I'm with you on this, totally

prob is "democrats" in congress are not on board with serious cuts to defense spending.

"Homeland Security Dept"? from what I've read lately, this department is a total joke.

"worried about future debt".. I hear you but our massive debt is about to smack us down NOW; I give the whole mess 12-24 months before the house of cards comes crashing down on us in an epic way.

George is my favorite Beatle.. not only due to what you state here, but because he was the "spiritual" Beatle.. he reached out to Ravi Shankar.. eastern Spirituality/Music and helped bring this to the west. this later had a large impact on my life in the form of meditation.

3. Making the same mistake they made in Iraq. Responding to symptoms instead of causes.

Homeland Security turned out to be such an utter joke and a travesty against the people that they've turned it over to machines.

What we need is more authentic LOCAL representation and around here that means an END to ChurchCoC, i.e. end the tax exempt status of hate-promoting, divisive, Civil War II preaching, FASCIST CHURCHES.

I don't know. who said people are willing to give up liberty for the illusion of safety and usually end up with neither? I think it was Jefferson or Franklin. But anyway, droneaphile just something that popped into mind as I saw one of those flying overhead, in an imaginary scenario, and raising my fist and cursing it as it flies over my house, and my repuglikkkan neighbor asks, "why so angry, it's just there for our protection." Someone like that is a droneaphile, to me.

16. I would like someone to explain something to me...

Given that it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars PER HOUR to run these things, why wouldn't we want to save a few billion and simply use Cesnas for about 1/1000 of the cost to patrol the southern border? I'm pretty sure they are already aware we're looking, and I don't think the pilots would have to worry about rocket launchers (at least not until we start selling them to Mexico to end up on the black market and end up being used against us).

We need to ask Cesna to start ponying up and start throwing a few million here and there in "lobbying" investments so they can compete in the free enterprise economy of ours I guess.
