I used to watch I Dream of Jeannie with my Mom of blessed memory...

She thought is was dopey, kind of funny fluff, but she told me in no uncertain terms that I was not to act like the Larry Hagman character, running away from women, particularly a beautiful, devoted, kind, generous woman like Jeannie. She told me that acting like a schlemiel was not attractive or reasonable and that if someone's interested, that i should pursue it if I were interested. The word was a good euphemism I suppose.

It was funny/strange to be raised in a household without my dad present, and to have my mother tell me this stuff. Sh came upon a cartoon in Playboy somehow and cut it out for me. It was of a kid sitting on a stoop and a pretty girl is walking past with a halter top and short shorts. His mother is standing behind him speaking and the caption reads, "Whistle, you idiot!"

I still have it somewhere...

R.I.P. Mr. Hagman...and thank you for the lesson.

My very first television memory is Mary Martin playing Peter Pan. I cant tell you how many times I jumped off of things, trying to fly. I'm lucky I never broke a bone.

Many years later, I was a big Dallas fan, and loved it when I found out that my all time favorite villian (next to Captain Hook) was the son of one of my all time favorite musical performers who played my all time favorite character. Talent sure ran in that family!

If I could watch I Dream of Jeannie and fantasize I was having my way with her if my Mom were sitting next to me? Thats just too creepy for me to imagine!
