New horizons of election fraud will be realized in 2014 if smartphone & internet voting moves fwd

Romney may have lost, but the voting system is still broken
by Gerry Bello and Bob Fitrakis

The various memes on voter suppression around the country have faded in favor of "our guy won, so the casualties are acceptable." Victory on a narrow basis for single party is neither a victory for democracy nor a triumph for the citizens whose votes were stolen.

The power of the other half of the anti-democratic coin electronic voter fraud is still very much in place. The machines designed for hacking, the right-aligned voting machine companies, the nontransparency of the systems and software, court decisions, the virtual factory of denial and the political hacks who benefit from them, are all still very much a part of our system. The partisan for-profit corporations are still in a position to change the outcome of any election in the nation. The official forces of the Democratic Party and the administration have been at best silent and at worst dismissive of this proven reality.

<...>

This picture would not be one of Romney losing by a 3%. It would be a broad repudiation of the Right by a large majority of Americans. This repudiation would vastly shift American politics to the center Left, not to the corporate center that the Democratic Party corporate triangulators. Even today, as the Republican Party sharpens its long knives for an internal struggle not seen since 1964, pundits are calling for a more "purple" politics based on bi-partisan compromise. The functional end logic of this is corporate single party rule the antithesis of democracy.

The constant failure of the "liberal" activists to defend the voting rights of ordinary Americans causes them instead to lash out at the Left and deride any third party efforts, like the Green Party, in the name of propping up an indefensible centrist viewpoint. By allowing the pre-election purging of ten million or so voters and the blatant racist disenfranchisement of millions of voters on Election Day, these liberal layworkers for corporate centrism accept skewed election results that erroneously show an evenly divided electorate.

2. It's funny - I can buy anything online from

an escort service to a helicopter to underwear and get a receipt listing my purchase

But I cannot get a receipt for voting.

Here's the cure - which I read on DU and cannot remember who posted it:

You vote online and get a receipt.

You can check that receipt on an online database that confirms your vote.

Anyone who cannot vote this way gets a paper ballot, and a receipt.

Vote early, vote often, vote Democratic.

10. When was the last time you were ripped off at Amazon?

Just use the same model:

If your vote has been switched, you have a receipt that you can take to your local elections office and show them what the deal is.

Just like taking underwear that are too small back to the local Wallmart.

Instant refund, or, in this case, instant vote honesty,.

Folks, this shit is easy to track and trace. It is IDIOCY to do it any other way.

16. They say that is a bad idea, but...

If you vote absentee your vote is not private. You can sit there at home with a ballot and show it to everybody and even take a picture. You could even hand it to someone else and let them deliver it to the ballot box.

And the officials can trace your vote and be able to tell who you voted for. So this grand idea that all ballots are secret is BS.

If we moved to internet voting (Gawd forbid!) the only way to do it safely is to be able to track your vote which means others could too.

Are we ready for that?

21. None, except a trail of every vote cast. Kinda important in a democracy.

Kills privately owned voting machines.

That's all.

25. While throwing "Fail" at everyone YOU'RE missing the point.

Read up on this, because many have been working on the problems of voting machine integrity for years, and I've never seen it suggested that individuals being able to look at a supposed electronic record of their vote guarantees in any way that that is how it is counted in the totals...

23. You haven't explained how you find out if your vote has been switched.

If you have a problem with anything you buy, you have an unlimited amount of time to get the situation straightened out. This in no way is similar to voting.

22. And your vote can then be changed without your knowledge

A trial online voting system in DC last year was hacked in about 45 seconds by one of a team of computer security experts invited by the designers to have at it. Stop being ridiculous.

He ran as a Green and lost to Beatty. That doesn't mean we can't post his articles and admire his work on election integrity...

24. We have vote by mail in Oregon. Works great.

I don't think the problems are insurmountable. Technology or no. There are ways to ensure that the vote gets counted, and accurately. TRANSPARENCY in the process, the software, redundancy, multiple verification nodes, whatever it takes.

Don't tell me it can't be done. It can.

26. While some States keep asking when 'we' will make voting easier and more secure

other States have simply done so. This is why the material about how 'no one does anything' is so annoying to me. Washington State just made huge changes to their voting system while Ohio allows itself to be exploited by a Sec of State they actually vote into office. So don't 'we' too hard at those who are doing what 'you' need to do.
We have many States with huge elections issues. Solving them is made harder by those who deny changes other States are making just to be able to say 'no one does anything' and 'THE system' over and over again. Why don't they point to examples for the good instead of claiming there are none?
Are these guys 'independents'? Much of the piece seems to hold tight to 'Democrats do nothing'....in spite of facts the authors simply leave out of their 'work'.
Serious issues require serious discussion, not boilerplate repetition.
