CEO OF APPLE PARTNER FOXCONN: 'Managing One Million Animals Gives Me A Headache'

According to WantChinaTimes, Terry Gou, the head of Hon Hai (Foxconn), the largest contract manufacturer in the world, had this to say at a recent meeting with his senior managers:

"Hon Hai has a workforce of over one million worldwide and as human beings are also animals, to manage one million animals gives me a headache," said Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou at a recent year-end party, adding that he wants to learn from Chin Shih-chien, director of Taipei Zoo, regarding how animals should be managed.

As WantChinaTimes put it, Gou "could have chosen his words more carefully."

Gee... ya think???

any other company on that list. But, when you accuse a company or a person of murder, I think it best to be aware that most companies operate similarly and that the vast majority of consumers in the U.S. are using products sold by murderers. Thus, we are all complicit.

"Oh that fucker!"

Though if he was talking from an evolutionary standpoint, I'd agree with him. We are animals. It's just the connotation we give to animals that they're dumber/lamer than us. Then of course we get insulted by being called that...

It's a little like calling men girls I guess. Same concept.

Apparently Foxconn is a city within a city. It has three hospitals, several fire stations, paramedics, etc. When you work at a factory in China, you apparently live in dormitories, 8 to a room. These people do not know each others' names and they are discouraged from finding out. They work long shifts, one woman saying she was expected to make 5200 little bits for some computer part or another a day. Crazy. They don't get paid real great, but then again, I guess they have a place to live and are provided most things, but still. 8 to a room? Really? And you don't know your roommates? Yikes.

They would build whole towns to house their workforce, complete with schools and hospitals. Those who challenged terrible working conditions and poor pay were summarily fired, and they were typically evicted from the company-owned home. This was done to create a dependency between the workers and the employer, and it helped to keep workers in line, but working conditions were so bad that conflicts were pretty common, and quite a lot of people were murdered for trying to fight for better wages and benefits for themselves and their families. The Ludlow Massacre is but one example.

If everyone else is a lowly animal, then shouldn't they call themselves that too? If anything, they are more animals themselves for not elevating themselves above their base hedonistic desires and greed - in favor of actually doing something positive for mankind as a whole.
