The 14 Most Unintentionally Terrifying Statues in the World

I hope this causes Bloreilly to open up a new front in his Annual Christmas Inane Defense trip.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19155_the-14-most-unintentionally-terrifying-statues-in-world.html

My favorite is a toss up between #14 and #8.

Ryan Jr. (left), chairman of the board of trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, unveils a bronze statue of Ronald Reagan at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Va., on Nov. 1, 2011. The statue was unveiled as part of a dedication ceremony on the centennial of the former presidentís birth. Also attending the event were former Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Dole (second from left); Charles Snelling (second from right), chairman of the board of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority; and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. They now have a full body Jesus statue. I just drove by it on my way to visit relatives this week. It is right off I-75, a little north (I think?) of Dayton.

I really liked the "Touchdown Jesus" and used to drive by it frequently. It was just so cheesy that it was "special".

I also thought it was fitting that it was struck by lightning and burned/melted to the ground. Some kind of cosmic statement.

I haven't seen the replacement.

Last edited Fri Nov 23, 2012, 04:03 PM - Edit history (2)

Like this one of Baron Stueben, the 18th Century Prussian mercenary, in Lafayette Square across from the White House. It also contains a plaque on the opposite side dedicated to William Walker, the Civil War era adventurer and slaver who briefly conquered Nicaragua in the 1850s.

And then there is this national treasure in bronze lying on the concourse in front of the Ronald Reagan Bldg. on 14th Street. A draped nude man and a boy, curiously titled "The Voice of Reason":

And, fasces are all over town in DC, from the Well of the Senate to the Supreme Court Bldg:

Also in Lafayette park is a half-dressed woman passing a sword to the guy on the pedestal (I'm blanking out on the name of the particular warrior).

Elsewhere in the city is a bare-chested George Washington, the tale of which is told below:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0707/5163.html

And then there's this treasure from the Federal Trade Commission:

on a tour of the city, our tour guide pointed to a headless statue. She said, "It used to be Lenin but they haven't decided whose head to replace it with yet. That is pretty common here in Russia. We keep the bodies and take off the heads as the political tides change, store them somewhere, and just pop on the head that is currently in fashion. It saves money."

When a bigwig who had statues of himself all over Rome fell out of power for whatever reason, they'd often just replace the head with one that was the likeness of the new bigwig.

80. Number 13 appears to be Krampus,
