Hobby Lobby files appeal in battle against ObamaCare contraception provisions

Hobby Lobby Stores has appealed a federal judge’s decision denying the craft supply chain’s request to not provide employees with insurance that covers morning-after and week-after birth control pills, as mandated by the ObamaCare law.

The Christian-owned company asked for relief in the face of fines they say could reach $1 million a day for not providing the coverage.

The appeal was filed Tuesday in the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals after a federal judge in Oklahoma on Monday denied the owners’ request for a temporary injunction against the provisions of the Obama administration's health law.

The chain's appeal states in part that Chief Executive Officer David Green his family in less than six weeks “must either violate their faith by covering abortion-causing drugs or be exposed to severe penalties -- including fines of up to $1.3 million per day, annual penalties of about $26 million and exposure to private suits.”

1. They just don't get the difference between following their own consciences

and bullying unwilling people to follow them.

That's where the line is, folks, and bullying is not a Christian value.

3. These people seem to be the ones who would have their panties in a bunch

if someone they weren't exactly friendly with (mainly in their own mind, not the "offending person's" mind, nor reality) mentioned that they were wearing a "nice cross" ... (quite visibly and prominently displayed).

They know, like the people who read the fine print and fly the over-sized flag on the too-tall flagpole know, that this will get them their 15 minutes of fame and 30 pieces of silver from the "liberally-biased media" ...

4. I already dislike Hobby Lobby

because they're closed on Sundays (I mean, COME ON, a hobby/craft store that is closed on Sunday? When do they think Monday-Saturday working people find time to do crafts? I'm sure some of their employees don't worship on Sundays!). Now this contraception stuff makes me dislike the store even more.

8. Sooooo....

I guess Seventh Day Adventists, non church goers, and people of the Jewish faith don't get to do crafts on Sunday because Hobby Lobby says so.

7. Three things

Birth control pills do not cause abortions no matter what you people think. They don't stop fertilized eggs from implanting, they stop women from ovulating.

Hobby Lobby is not a church, so the government's exceptions for churches don't apply to you.

And your deeply held belief in a 2000-year-old sheep farming manual does not trump many of your employees' deeply held belief they can't raise a kid on what you pay.

11. My wife's brother-in-law brought this up before thanksgiving dinner ... oopps.

It was my wife's sister's husband.

He brought it up about how places like Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-a, were taking these stances based on their religion. There was some brief discussion about how important one's religion is ... my wife and are far left from her family.

Anyway, so I said ... "I'll take these folks seriously when the decide to end insurance coverage for Viagra for single old guys. I mean no sex outside marriage MEANS no sex outside marriage. A guy isn't married, he shouldn't be getting Viagra covered by a company that thinks pre-marital sex is a sin. I mean, am I right?"

It got very quiet, and then my wife's 2 sisters both cracked up laughing and started to agree with me. "Oh yea, like THAT's going to happen!!!!"

There were no other discussions of politics this Thanksgiving.

15. It's not just premarital sex that's a sin to them

Any sex not intended to create life is the larger sin.

I am pretty sure they'd be somewhat okay with two unmarried different-gendered people having sex together if it was without any contraception and if the couple pledged to marry once she conceived, and the ceremony was held before she began to show. Shotguns would be optional at the ceremony. They wouldn't be real happy about it, but anything that makes more employees who are so desperate for money to take care of children that you can treat them like shit and not have them quit on Black Friday and storm off in a huff is just greay.

I think they're totally against sex for any other reason even for married couples. So...if you are one of their employees and want to have sex, sacrifice a couple of meals to go to the doctor.

Viagra is different: the sperm from a chemically-hardened penis gets women just as pregnant as sperm from a natural one. So that's fine.

and many viagra users probably have low sperm counts

12. This Is Going To Hurt...

My business relies on stores like HL to provide parts for kits I produce. It looks like I'm going to have to look for different suppliers. I had no idea that they were run/owned by Fundementalists.

14. There is no law requiring they employ people.

If you can't afford to follow employment regulations, your business model is flawed.

Fuck these idiots.

20. I will never shop at a Hobby Lobby, ever.

Well I don't have one closeby, I have ACMoore, but I'll make sure they aren't owned by the same people.
I'll make sure my family knows this about Hobby Lobby, in case they live near one.
