If they answer "yes", say "too bad."
If they answer "no", say "good."
Get the message across. And do NOT set foot in one of them. WalMart is a plague on the country and it needs to die.

(47,675 posts)The non-union strike needs to be supported so they've got leverage to unionize.

(47,675 posts)Every store specifically states that quantities are limited and there are no rain checks on sale items. That's the draw-in. They mark everything else up and put a red "SALE" sign on it and idiots think they're getting a good deal because they camped out for three days. The tents and chairs they brought are often stolen while they're in the store. The same items will cost 20% less two weeks from now. It's the same every year. The idiots never learn. That's why the store's put the effort into Black Friday.
BTW - did you know that the Thanksgiving newspaper is the largest one of the year? There are no grocery coupons. It makes it easy - you just put all of the internals into the recycling can. It's the biggest scam of the year.

Uhm, gee, will you be open on the biggest shopping day of the year......
Is there any, retail store not going to be open? Anywhere?

(2,547 posts)politics, and Christmas shopping aside, I have electrical issues at my house, and I need wire, outlets, a circuit breaker, a couple of cut in boxes and cover plates. My trip to Lowes will take me past 3 of the 5 'local' walmarts. (Well, not right past (except for 1), the other two are just off Capital Circle, easy to swing by and see. Locations of the other 2 are such that I know they will be staffed, or reasonably sure of it.

(47,675 posts)If enough people call and ask (and answer to the response) it will make it up the chain to corporate. Think of it as "grass roots" if you will. They'll get scabs anyway, but the call is just to show support for the abused.

(47,675 posts)The last time Soros donated to MoveOn was in 2004 and it was for political purposes. He has NOTHING to do with the worker-organized strike tomorrow but FOX just HAS to find a way to work his name into it.

(913 posts)...that Walmart is a plague and needs to die, and then you say that we need to support low wage workers.
Since Walmart is America's largest employer, I don't see how it's death will help it's employees all that much.
HopeHoops
(47,675 posts)WalMart treats its employees like shit. Small businesses generally (if not entirely) take care of their employees because they see them as an ASSET, not a liability. If the strike hits WalMart's bottom line, maybe they'll reconsider fucking over their workforce. Yes, support the workers, but WalMart needs to die and let small businesses return.

I'm happy to trouble Walmart but not sure how, other than to avoid it like the plague.

(14,337 posts)We have a few of those. They only sell food items. I don't think this applies to these stores, since the majority of supermarkets are open on Thanksgiving, although the majority close early for staff to have their own dinners with family.
Publix in Florida is the ONLY supermarket I have ever seen which isn't open at all on Thanksgiving.
