Boycotting Diamond Comic Distributors would be difficult

Diamond has a practical (not literal) monopoly on distribution of comic books. No comic start-up can go far without being distributed by Diamond.

Diamond owner Steve Geppi is, unfortunately, a serious wing-nut... a rabid birther. Like this level of birther (as one of a multitude of examples):

Liberals and feckless judges can deny it, but the questions about Obama’s eligibility remain

Barack Hussein Obama, using eight different names, has failed to meet eligibility requirements for the office of U.S. President according to a 19 point challenge alleging he was born in Kenya to a Kenyan citizen and a teen age mother not old enough to convey U.S. citizenship...

An intrepid citizen-researcher has confirmed that the man who goes by the name “Barack Hussein Obama II,” has an original vital record kept by the Hawaii Department of Health, which bears the name “Steve Dunham.”

But no comic book store east of the Mississippi can plausibly boycott Diamond while remaining at all competative... it's like boycotting the electric company.

And there is certainly no reason to punish stores. They are harmless little businesses struggling to survive in a very tough marketplace for printed material.

But if a store advertised they were Diamond-free one might opt to patronize that store.

C'est la vie.

1. I have managed to avoid Diamond Comic Distributors

for my entire adult life. The last comics I ever bought were the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers series back in the 70s. I bought them directly from their publisher by mail.

4. Indeed. It seems that I'm already boycotting most of the

things I am called on to boycott here at DU.

Sadly, I discovered that my originals of those ...Freak Brothers comics are all still in print, and have no real value. A pity, that, since I've preserved them well.
