Why does the U.N. care so much?

http://www.boston.com/news/world/united-nations/2012/11/20/official-calls-for-marijuana-ballot-rollback/QEqcQ9iGNYt6U7AWyy8BLM/story.html

VIENNA (AP) — The head of the U.N. drug watchdog agency is urging U.S. federal officials to challenge ballot measures in Colorado and Washington that decriminalized possession of small amounts of marijuana for adults 21 and over.

Raymond Yans says the approvals send ‘‘a wrong message to the rest of the nation and it sends a wrong message abroad.’’

Yans heads the International Narcotics Control Board. He told The Associated Press on Tuesday he hopes Attorney General Eric Holder ‘‘will take all the necessary measures’’ to ensure that marijuana possession and use remains illegal throughout the U.S.

Both states are holding off on plans to regulate and tax the drug while waiting to see whether the Justice Department will assert federal authority over drug law.

2. My guess would be that the Obama Administration put the bug in their ear. Obama does

not want to challenge this directly, for fear of reprisal.

4. I expect Justice Dept. will assert federal authority. But whatever the Obama admin

does regarding this, I hope the UN has zero influence over it. The UN does not and should not have any authority or influence over the US.

7. And a whole segment of the US has jobs that depend on bashing pot users. It's all

about $$$$$ and the enforcers wanting $$$$$ and illegality.

6. As usual, follow the money trail. More money is made by those on both sides of the fence by

keeping pot illegal. It's all a game of politics and money, learned decades ago. Keep stuff illegal and people make money all the way around. Humanity is really a totally F'ed up species. Making pot illegal is all about $$$$$ and has nothing to do with goodness of intent. Meanwhile, one can drink their brains out, and oh, that's ok, it's all legal. This is so F'ed up in so many ways ... it clearly demonstrates the stupidity of many societies.
