The radio industry is FINALLY talking about the devastating impact of Rush Limbaugh's Fluke attack

The code of silence has been swept away. Throughout the radio industry this week, there is talk of the devastating impact of Limbaugh's Fluke attack. Rush supporters are, of course, in denial. But compelling personal testimonies are suddenly out in the open, and they will prove difficult to dismiss.

For example Doug Stephan, president of Stephan MultiMedia and host of the nationally syndicated ďGood DayĒ program, had this to offer:

Letís face it, the agencies and advertisers are how we survive. So to tell them that their clients are stupid for not staying in an atmosphere in which they donít want to be is akin to the Republicans not reading the tea leaves about changing demographics.
Iím not here to argue the point, but rather to tell you what this ONE incident has cost me as an independent in a sea of big corporate operators, who are obviously losing tens of millions of dollars due to this one event.

So far this year, my losses are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cancellations, avoidance and decisions to just not buy across the whole format, no matter what the content...

Iím not looking for Limbaugh to send me a check (although that would be nice), but I do think we have to let it be known that his actions have been devastating to our survival.

óDoug Stephan: Talk Must Expand Beyond Politics to Survive, November 19, 2012

I think it took Dial Global's devastating fall, and subsequent fingering of Limbaugh as partly responsible, to break loose the conversation.

More Rush Limbaugh, here.

1. The dirty little secret over the last five years has been how low ratings are for political talk

The most recent # of people according to ratings OReilley or Rush got was 4.3 million and everyone else under him was much less and has dropped for years.

When you realize that the lowest successful tv show is many times more that, or a Howard Stern like DJ gets many times more that, one realizes that although we here think it is important, NO political show resonates with the public whatsoever

There comes a time owners of stations want to do better

and soon one day Murdoch will retire, and the people who own the company will put profit before a vanity production

The day will be here soon (and yes, if there is any out there, liberal radio will also go, but if the vast rightwing media goes, the country is so much better off without it.

and for poor old Rush, he will survive with his 50million bucks a year and who knows howmany in the bank. He don't need to work another day.

7. What you should really hope...

Is that Limbaugh lives so large that he needs fifty mil a year (or whatever it is he makes) to maintain it and when he's tossed out on his crappy plated microphone ass, he goes bankrupt because he can't make his monthly nut.

2. I have no sympathy for these assholes who supported

limbaugh's show. As far as I am concerned they are just as guilty as limbaugh himself in calling Sandra Fluke a slut in front of the entire nation. They can go to hell and I hope they all go bankrupt.

6. Limbaugh said he wanted her to put her sex tapes online so he could watch

What he said was far worse than what people made issue of. (Just like reminding everyone how horrible, not to mention what a freaking hypocrite he is! She's a slut? He's a disgusting perverted pig- go watch someone who did put their video online-geez-what a weirdo)

3. Simple solution....simply switch from limpdick to a progressive show. Carl in the morning

is now gone. Switched to a sports station. There are far too many stations with rethuglican/asshole talkers and not enough Thom Hartmann, Carls etc. Maybe if there wwere more progressive talkers on then some people would actually see the light. My two cents

4. Some day I hope they come to their senses and dump the abusive, devisive pig.

Until then I hope they keep losing sponsors and money at the same time.
